Who saw Gazza on Saturday in the Umbro advert?
He looked like an old man. Say what you like about him, but there was a man so proud to play for his country.

No, he isn't very likeable unfortunately. But as you say, he did have his moments on the pitch. Sounds a lot like someone else we've been discussing recently...

Hello guys, I greet you affectionately. how are you? I re-up this thread because I had to change my opinion about Gazza. I got to see him in the Europa League match Lazio-Tottenham. I realized that he was very unlucky in his life. I saw that he feels a great love for his friends and for the people who love him. A person like him. can't be a bad guy. I know that he had a relapse now. He need help, hope able to help him and get him out of trouble.

Buongiorno! Haven't seen you on here for a long time. How are you?
I often say the same about people, too. It's difficult when it starts to affect other people though. I think a lot of people turned against Gazza when he was accused of domestic violence. When it starts to hurt other people, you have a huge responsibility to do something about it. But I agree with you. He is a human being and needs help.

One of the issues I think with Gazza is that he had a talent that he couldn't deal with - that level of genius which makes people a bit nuts. George Best, Alex Higgins and possibly Ballotelli tread the same path. At times they are just about in control, but doesn't take much for them to lose it.

Sometimes it's the change in lifestyle - the rags-to-riches or fame thing that makes people completely change the way they think and live their lives. Susan Boyle went a bit nuts when she suddenly became famous overnight, for example.

I think I recall a TV programme about Mr Gascoigne and its suggested that as a youngster he had to deal with a major trauma (possibly his friend being run over by a car in front of him) and it affected him in later life. Some of his England team mates were saying that he could not cope with being alone and at night he would roam the corridors of the team hotel. He drove everyone mad and was only happy when match time came around.
I have no idea if this has anything to do with (causing) his problems later in life but it seems that so many of the great geniuses of the game have some "loose wiring" (Gazza, Bestie, Maradona, etc). Personally I fear for him....
