I said to Miller that I can't wait for future sponsorships like the Northern Rock Southern and Southern Comfort North... Or any other North/South name sponsoring the league. To be honest, it doesn't make a bit of difference. Everyone will still call it the Conference, etc. Even the GM Vauxhall Conference.
All we really want is a larger share of the sponsorship for the North/South rather than all in the Premier. Unless they gamble it all away.

Rubbish name innit? Apparently Blue Square wanted the Conference name dropped as they said it was "too connected with Vauxhall". Bit daft really since it hasn't been the Vauxhall Conference for bloody donkeys! And why the hell are a betting firm worried about a car manufacturer? Maybe if it was Ford or something, I'd understand it. Oh well, it'll still be Conference South to me.

As far as I am concerned I am with Taz its the Conf Sth although I thought it was officially called Nationwide south and has never actually had the word 'conference' in it? My main reason for wanting it to be conf sth is that only mickey mouse leagues change their title to suit sponsors. I can't find the Kent league in the NLP because it's called something bloody stupid now like 'Go faster travel league' all leagues above us keep their core names it should be the same for us otherwise we will end up as 'The Mcdonalds Double Cheese burger and fries meal SOUTH'
Bloody stupid!

I can see why from a commerical perspective Blue Square have insisted on a change of name. Even 15-20 years on, people still relate the Conference to GM Vauxhall and most outsiders probably didn't even realise Nationwide were the main sponsors. They've stamped their authority on the competition immediately and, you never know, it might even generate a bit of extra interest into this level of football.

Realistically, it should be Football League Division 6 (South) ;D Doesn't that sound better?

Or should it be non-League Division One (Southern Sector)?
Ooooh, maybe that should read non-League Championship (Southern Sector)

'Blue Square Southern' may take a little getting used to.
I guess we should be thankful that, being sponsored by Blue Square, our league doesn't sound as much like a Little League as the 'Coca Cola Championship'.
