I think that clubs should have to field a min number of home grown payers. I think all these foreigners have damaged our national and domestic game. I think that there should also be a wages cap and club should only be able to spend a sustainable amount. It would improve our game.

If Arsenal , just for example , win the Champions League , who are they winning it for ? London ? England ? Arsenal FC and it's fans worldwide. Who else would they possibly be playing for? I really can't comprehend supporting a side in European competition because they play in the English league, or even the Scottish league. I couldn't care less about them when they play a domestic game, then why should I care when they play a team that is based in Spain, Italy, Germany or Russia?

I respectfully suggest that it's time to lock this thread! It's drifted way off its original subject.
If people want to debate the impact of foreign players on British football then they can do so in a thread with a relevant heading.

We all know England won't win the next World Cup. So I like the idea of blooding promising young players; in fact, as soon as (if) England qualify for Brazil I would ditch just about anyone who would be too old for the 2018 finals and go to Brazil with a really young squad. If one of the team of coaches could teach them to pass to a team mate then that would be a bonus, although I accept that teaching movement to take a return pass might need more than six years :-)

Jeff Powell is a bloody journalistic dinosaur. He normally trots out the old days when he used to go drinking with Bobby Moore. Yep, I suspect they were great days but the world has moved on since then (it is 50 years ago) and so has football.
People have been going on about te foreign players and how an you identify Arsenal, etc as English. Chuck in the fact that most of the big clubs are now owned by foreigners and you could take that argument to a new level.
However, they all play their football in the English PL and are therefore English clubs. As for supporting England (or whatever nation you prescribe to) I do because it is the country of my birth (and that of my recent ancestors) and there any argument ends. It really is simple and why anybody needs to complicate it further is beyond me.

Most players nowadays (in all sports) seem to have a second team to claim allegiance to if they are not good enough to represent England. Either that or a tenuous connection to help them become "English"
I can't remember how Vinny Jones got to play for Wales or Neil Sullivan , Matt Elliott , Tony Cascarino , Eric Young etc etc etc.........................................

An old player , past his best , is approaching a milestone of say 100 caps. He must then be dragged all around the world and be put on as sub 30 seconds from the end. He doesn't have to touch the ball , just win the cap and beat the bona fide records of Wright , Charlton , Moore etc.......................
