9-3 (I thought Mark would have mentioned this one), March 81, after a 1-1 draw at Sutton in the Surrey Senior Cup. Memorable for the main with walking stick and Ray Sunnucks sulking about being asked to come on in the rain ! Was it that long ago? I know its hard to believe but I was 16 then, where did they go I am not sure that pitch would be deemed playable today? Stood behind the goal and was as covered in mud as the players were by the end.

Billy off the top of my head I think Larry Pritchard scored 4 or 5 that day. I thought we lost 5-4 at Dorchester after being 4-2 up. Or is my brain really fading fast? LOL. I did mean defeat, sorry. It was a great game even though we lost. No idea why I put win, unless I was about to mention the 5-0 win there the previous season and changed my mind as I was about to post!

6 other hat tricks? Without looking Joycey (2) back to back. John Rains (2) back to back as well, Ricky Kidd & Mark Golley.

Thanks for the replies.i picked the wrong day to ask as we were off on holiday the following morning.
I thought it best not to mention it that night as last time i posted on here that we were going away our house was burgled three days later.
I once saw a 5-5 draw , Chelsea v West Ham circa 1966 , not sure of the exact season.

Walton Casuals v Merstham sounds as though it was the one to be at yesterday - Walton 6-1 up at half time before it finished as a 6-6 draw. Liam Wright, who I assume to be the same player as was with us a few years ago, scored a hat-trick for Merstham in the second half.

Spurs 10 Everton 4 The first match of the managerial career of Bill Nicholson was an amazing introduction to League football. With only three victories and nine points in the opening eleven games, Spurs season was in danger of becoming a struggle against relegation. They were only one place off the bottom of the League when Nicholson took charge and his first decision was to restore Tommy Harmer to the team. He helped to inspire Spurs to an incredible victory. They were 6-1 ahead at half-time and the goal scorers were Bobby Smith(4), Alf Stokes(2), Johnny Ryden, Terry Medwin, Tommy Harmer and George Robb. No-one realised that this was only an introduction to the excitement and success that Nicholson was to bring to the club over the next sixteen years.

When Spurs did the double they scored 115 goals in the league (42 games) Wolves and Burnley also topped 100 league goals that season.
Newcastle , who were relegated , scored 86.Last year Wolves scored 40.
Despite Tottenham signing the great Jimmy Greaves the following season's title was won by newly promoted Ipswich Town under Alf Ramsey.
This feat would be akin to Reading winning the Premier League this season.
All this happened in an era when nobody had any "issues" and there was no "momentum" just lots of attacking football with both teams trying to win the game.

Billy, it is all very well complaining, but different styles of football come and go over long periods of time. It's the same in all sports (rugby, cricket, even darts). No doubt high-goal scorelines will make a return at some point, but we can't say when. If you've been watching the Premier League this season, you might even think that the change is already happening.

I didn't mean to complain ! i thought i was stating a few facts. I hardly ever watch a game for 90 minutes any more , just the odd highlights programme which i tape so i can fast forward through most of it , especially Chelsea and Manchester City.
However , with time on my hands returning to Southampton on a ship last Saturday , i watched the "LONDON" derby Arsenal v Fulham. It was a terrific game but i counted 3 Englishmen on the pitch out of the 22 who started the match. It's gone way beyond ludicrous.

As a point of interest the Liverpool FA Cup winning team in 1986 (26 years ago) had: 1 player from Zimbabwe - Grobbelar 3 players from Eire - Lawrenson, Beglin, Whelan (Lawrenson was born in Preston but choose Eire) 4 players from Scotland - Nicol, Hansen, Dalglish, McDonald (not Ronald) 1 player from Denmark - Molby 1 player from Wales - Rush 1 player from Australia - Johnston Staying with Liverpool - they were the first team to field 11 non-english players in 1892 v Rotherham. Even the great Spurs double winning team had 6 (including Medwin) non-english players. How things have changed?

In the Premiership you pay top dollar to see the best players in the world. Why should we have to watch lesser players just because they are English? If an English player is good enough, he will be in a Premiership team.
The real damage is caused from the fact that the wealth gap between the top teams and the rest is so great, that an England player like Welbeck is better of in ManU reserves than playing first team football elsewhere.

That's why The National team is in such a mess, and will continure to be so unless the FA do something about it.Until they do winning the World Cup or European Championship, will remain a pipe dream The first position to go was Goalkeeper. We are now scratching around like Scotland and both Irish teams to find players who qualify for England. Players who have only started a handful of league games are now winning England Caps. Soon they will be handing them out in cornflake packets. Everyone wants to see the top players , Zola , Bergkamp , Kanchelskis etc but it 's now way beyond a joke. If Arsenal , just for example , win the Champions League , who are they winning it for ? London ? England ?
