I'm no big fan of the oval ball game but I have to say that was an unbelievably compelling 80 mins tonight.
Compared with the footy this afternoon, there was no contest - probably because Estonia offered very little and the rugby was a WC SF.
And getting one over the French in their own back yard on such an occasion makes even more special.
Add England's Series win over Sri Lanka & not a bad week in sport. Let's hope England's footballers play a little bit better in Moscow on the plastic.

I agree, although I don't understand the finer points I began shouting at the tv near the end and thought the result was brilliant. What would round the weekend off nicely would be a U's win tomorrow. Here's hoping. Com'on you yellow ;D

In terms of excitement it was excellent, it helped i was in a pub with both French and English but even as a bitter and severely f*cked off Welshman i got into it. In terms of quality rugby though it was severely lacking bar a couple of beautiful bits of French play (that reverse/diagonal pass was awesome) and the usual Wilkinson kicking (though the early misses proved he isn't quite god just yet...). I can't see where another England try will come from though, considering the good fortune in today's try. Robinson seemed to be a possibility but didn't have the legs when his moment came. Rather gamely the landlord of the pub i was in got on the microphone to see if anybody would sing the French or English anthem or even Chariots. My shout of "somebody who knows the second verse!" caused the first and only bit of silence in the evening Kept me happy anyway

As I said, I know little about Rugby but know it wasn't a flowing purist type match but the French seemed happy to protect a one point lead & only started to go for it, when it was too late.
Most football WC SF's are cagey affairs too, so it was hardly surprising.
Sometimes, to get where you want to be, you have to do what you're good at, England appear to have done that twice now. Whether they will get away with in the final is another matter.

Indeed, you can't escape the fact that we're all very bloody jealous but mainly through our own failings.
In five minute periods of dropped concentration the dreams of New Zealand, Wales, France and i think Scotland have all been dashed so far. It's been an interesting World Cup if not a totally top class one.
