I understand that the pitch is frozen solid. No surprise there. With Truro skint and bussing it up early Saturday can we expect an early decision? Friday afternoon?

With the current weather reports saying that Sutton will remain at freezing or below from late this afternoon until Monday, I'd say probably not - especially as snow is forecast for tomorrow. I'd say at this point, Tuesday looks very unlikely too

.....a decision will have to be made early, in view of the distance Truro have to travel. It also depends on the weather conditions in the west country.

We may as well call it off now. There is zero chance of the game going ahead. I've already been booked to do decorating by the missus !

Luckily my missus does not trust me with a paint brush or any form of DIY equipment so I wont be doing that on Saturday.
However, I fear shops may be involved if the weather is not too bad to use the car, as the realistic chance of a match must be very slim.
Roll on Spring or a 3G pitch (not sure which is likely to come first at the moment!)

Cant play football on a 3 G pitch if its covered in snow. I think the prospects for the rest of January are dire to be honest.

But you can sweep snow off a 3G pitch and it won't do it any harm.

You CAN play on any pitch covered in snow, you just need the will. Does nobody remember the orange balls specifically designed for playing on snow? I've seen and played in loads of matches on snow. Not great for the quality, but definitely possible.
Having said that, my 5 a side tonight on a snow-covered/frozen 3G pitch will almost certainly be called off.

But you can sweep snow off a 3G pitch and it won't do it any harm. Once you've swept a foot of snow off the pitch you then have to do the terraces and footpaths inside and outside the ground in case anyone falls over!

As much as I understand health & safety, it really irks me that games get called off due to the conditions of public areas rather than the pitch.

I expect the Truro match to be called off tomorrow as there is no chance of it going ahead with or without snow. Tuesday's match prospects don't look good, meaning we will not have played a home league game since November.
Snow is a killer even for PL games as its all done to safty these days, and that includes the local roads, transport conditions even if the pitch is perfect.

I hope we get enough warning of a postponement so there is time to get a ticket for the Palace instead.
The Met Pol v Margate match was called off after 56 minutes last night, a bit annoying because as the teams came off at half time the MetPol manager appeared to ask the ref if he was happy with the pitch. Not quite sure how much it could have deteriorated in 25 minutes as it wasn't getting noticeably colder.

Thanks for that link Billy, reminded me of being allowed to "stay up late" on a Saturday night to watch Match of the Day, which of course was in black and white, and reminded me of all those familiar names like those on that clip and Tommy Lawrence, Ron Yeats and Roger Hunt etc. For those who like "trivia" Kenneth Wolstenholme whose voice is the commentator, lived in Worcester Park !
