Great win and an excellent three points as our stop start season really comes to life. Dos must have marked tommy lovelocks card as he was back in goal and had a fine game. Other than that no surprises in the line up and we started just where we left off Tuesday. Pace, tempo, movement and a pressing game that Eastbourne simply couldn't cope with. After a number of chances Harry b set up Harry o for a brilliantly worked opener as ottoways fine run continues. He leads the line superbly for me and has really taken his chance. The penalty. You didn't need to be a forensic scientist to see the gash in the turf a foot in from the edge of the box where Marv was chopped down despite all the protests. Rentsy blasts it in and we went in top value for two nil. Second half Eastbourne had obviously had a bollocking and it was much more open. They seemed to have a decent shout for a pen which sent them apoplectic but I couldn't see that clearly. We were solid, had a few openings and rotated as expected but no drama and on we go. Has to be ottoway motm for me closely run by h.

This is more like it part II! If that match happened in September say, we'd have given away 2 stupid goals and missed a hat full of chances. But it's February and we are a very different beast. Quite a routine win against a side who I thought were one of the poorer ones I've seen this season (and thought that at their place in October). I don't think we were as good as we were on Tuesday, but then we didn't need to be. Couple of goals, clean sheet and save yourself a bit for Tuesday rather than going all guns blazing and wear ourselves out.
MoM for me? Sammy R had a sterling game, as did most, but for me it was the other Harry, Mr B - really showed the form that won him young player of the year last season.
We're now in 11th with games in hand, the first time we've been higher than 13th and in the top half of the table this season.
A draw on Tuesday will take us above Maidenhead, who don't play.

Today's performance didn't have quite the sparkle of last Tuesday's, but it's the three points that really matter and we got those in the locker. We were the better side even if there was a touch of fortune about both our goals, Harry O's flicked shot just dropping inside the far post (after a fine run and cross from Harry B) while the foul that led to Sam Rents's excellently taken penalty was right on the edge of the area.
I agree with Andy about Eastbourne, who were solid but limited. Their centre forward Elliott Charles caused our defence a few problems but he was let down by wayward shooting. Their most dangerous player was probably their right back!
So we're now (just) in the top half. Boreham Wood (in 5th) only drew today so we've closed the gap on them to eight points. Win on Tuesday night and the play-offs would be in sniffing distance!

Now this is better. We are (hopefully) putting a bit of a run together and this was a very good, if not spectacular, performance.
Both Harrys have energy levels that are quite scary and Simon Downer was great too. It was a good team performance overall though and let's hope we carry it on in midweek.
More good news is that celebrity Sutton fan, Tim Vine, is now in the final of the comic relief dancing programme after a stupendous Timberlake impression. Yes, I am so sad that I celebrate three points by watching famous people try to dance (emphasis on 'try' if you are Ricky Hatton).
Come on the U's and Tim Vine!!!

Not sure why our two goals had a touch of fortune (AA). The first was a great run & cross fom Harry B well finished with a deft flick by Harry O. The second was from Anwar Uddin taking out Marv in the box and Sam got back on penalty form by smashing it down the middle. 2-0 at ht probably reflected our dominance. The second half we were happy to contain (another match on Tues coming up) and only their no 10 looked to cause any problems heading one good chance over and going down in a heap in the box. Too far away to comment but the Boro fans were incensed (actually they were like that for most of the match). The ref had a clear view though, so who knows?
MOM for me today was Harry B, back to his best or at least getting there and while we never hit the heights of Tuesday, we didn't need to. Boro were much like they were earlier in the season, well organised but pretty limited going forward. Also thought the pitch didn't play as well as Tuesday - too dry?!!!
Pleasantly surprised to see Tom back in goal but he did make one good save in the second half & but for one, almost aberration involving Tom Jordan, looked very sound.
For the second consecutive Saturday, a decent ref too, although I'm sure the visitors didn't see it that way & I'm really at pains to understand why.
Three more points taking us into the top half at last.

I was walking round past the Gander Green Lane end in the 2nd half when the penalty incident happened, and to me it did look like a pen, but, Kezie fouled SD seconds before which wasnt given either !

I see that the joker who did the commentary for BBC Sussex described our first goal as "poor", the penalty as "dreadful" and suggested that the officials robbed boro of a result. Sometimes all you can do is stand back, shake your head and wonder whatever happened to the days of quality, balanced sports reporting on Auntie Beeb.

I just read that & was thinking just the same Mr Trotter. I was far too far away to judge their pen shout but about 10 yards from ours and after Marv had beaten the first defender he was just inside when taken out by their fella. They lost because they were second best and for all their play in the second half, they created very little.

It will be interesting to see any video or photographic record of those two incidents. I'd guess that the challenge on our player was captured.

Well it was my first game for a while. I would like to firstly thank everyone for their kind words and condolences. Mum would have been proud today.
We did the job in the first half. Margin missed a glorious opportunity after just a few minutes. He really should have hit the target. We were well on top, first to the ball and generally busy. Both Harry's were excellent with Mr B everywhere. The work rate from the whole team was excellent. Their no 10 was their best player by a mile but Tom had absolutely nothing to do first half. I expected them to come out stronger 2nd half after a rocket at half time but we still had loads of chances but as I said above the energy and effort in the first half was outstanding. A most enjoyable game. Well done to all. HB my MOM by a country mile

I'm looking forward to seeing the highlights, from my view, also at the GGL end, the player seemed to delay his shot too long and then "fall over" Simon Downer's leg - as I got around to Rose's someone else said exactly the same to me and we were both bemused as to why the player hadn't just had a shot!
That said, I wouldn't have been suprised to see the ref award it but would have been disappointed. Let's see if the video clears that up at all!

In fairness to Kevin, the "Joker" he is possibly one of the one most unbiased non league commentators you will find, and unpiad by the BBC too.... His reference to the "poor" first goal was reference to OUR defending.... The penalty as dreadful to concede.... Yes, the referee did make a differeence by not awarding what to many seemed a clear Boro penalty in the 2nd half but...... Your first half display looked like a training exercise against us.... some very slick passing.... We did come out stronger in the 2nd half and if that pen had been given, may have had the nous to get a point.... as it is, you climb to 11th we drop down.... a tighter league I cant remember.....

Thanks Boro Eagle but if you care to look at pics 0390 & 0391 they confirm that Anwar Uddin's foul was inside the box and if Kevin did mean what you say, perhaps, as a journalist, amateur or not, he should be more definitive and clarify what he meant. All I could read from his comments was that Sutton only won because of two poor penalty decisions. He's certainly incorrect in the first instance.

Eastbourne Borough official website.... www.ebfc.co.uk/news/its-deja-vue-for-boro-as-first-period-goals-lead-to-defeat-861949.html*Interesting* content aside, am I missing a play on words or should the heading be Déjà vu? " It's Deja Vue For Boro As First Period Goals Lead To Defeat
Boro fell behind to two first period goals, this time away at Sutton United .....
..... and just as at home to Weston-Supe-Mare a spirited comeback in the second half is choked off by an incredible penalty decision by the match officials, Elliott Charles tripped as he beats the last man. The decision even harder to take as United second goal a penalty, signalled by the linesman, when the offence appeared to be just outside the Boro penalty area. 2-0 the final score. "
