Even if Eastbourne have a legitimate grievance against Mr Quelch, Sutton can equally claim to have been the victims of some poor refereeing decisions this season (no pen after Kezie Ibe was wrestled to the ground in the box at Basingstoke, the stoppage time pen awarded against Jamie Stuart for standing his ground at Weston).
As the old saying goes, these things tend to even out over the course of a season.

Adrian Quelch reffed us last season at home I believe and was generally thought to be very harsh on us. These things come around and go around...

IIRC there was some question over the penalty award in Eastbourne's favour in the reverse fixture - which was saved by Lovelock. The award of a penalty doesn't mean the kick will be converted!

Thanks Boro Eagle but if you care to look at pics 0390 & 0391 they confirm that Anwar Uddin's foul was inside the box and if Kevin did mean what you say, perhaps, as a journalist, amateur or not, he should be more definitive and clarify what he meant. All I could read from his comments was that Sutton only won because of two poor penalty decisions. He's certainly incorrect in the first instance. I caught up with Kevin on Sunday morning at an under 18's game, and was first to admit that the viewpoint he had doing the commentary was quite a distance and his initial view was it was outside... I have to say that Kevin is possibly one of the most balanced of commentators that non league,, or local radio for that matter will ever have. As for the curse of the idiots in black, we all suffer them! Our league wouldnt be what it is if we actually had officials that were consistent!!

Love his comparisom between the two penalty shouts. A clearer penalty - what's that? Will have to wait & see about their shout but christ what did he need to see to be convinced that ours most definitely was? The ref didn't wave anything away he was just waiting to see if the lino was going to bring his flag across his chest. He did take a while to do it mind, a point I made at the time.

Accuracy would appear to be secondary in EBFC`s report. If they cannot get the gate figures correct ( 80 people are missing I wonder if the police are aware ? ) and they are posted on our website why should their account of the match be believed ?

This bloke Kevin truly is renaissance man. Not only does he do the BBC radio commentary but he writes the match reports for the local rag, files copy for the website and I'm sure I saw somewhere that he drives the team bus, flips the half time slippers and works the match day turnstiles. Respect is due for that level of Stakhanovite effort but I suspect overwork and the associated lack of rest may turn out to be key factors in the inability to spot a nailed on penalty when it's staring you in the face.

To be fair, if someone reports on the same team week in, week out, there is going to be an attachment/bias towards that team, albeit unintentional. Also take into consideration their audience. The majority of which will be Eastbourne supporters, so the reporting will focus around them.
What Kevin said was fine from that point of view. And those of you who had read previous season match reports from Hornchurch for example will have seen much worse that this!
All the best for the rest of the season Kevin.

Kevin. Relax mate. It's only a bit on on line banter. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Our Kev's getting a bit precious, isn't he? Let's face it, if you're going to write something and place it in the public domain then expect some criticism from those who also observed the same events. From the vantage point of the stand I would suggest a clear view of both incidents was available and therefore quite clear that both incidents occurred in the penalty area, something our Kev initially disputed.
No one is looking for a fight and I did offer evidence in the form of Paul's excellent photography. I still haven't seen Boro's shout so can't comment as I was too far away to judge.
As for being normal Billy, if that is what you are my friend, then I'm glad you think I'm not.

Anyone subscribed to full match coverage on www.sufctv.co.uk will have seen the excellent "corner cam" view of this already - highlights will follow when Clive is able but in the meantime here's a link to a still: /photo/1
