www.chelmsfordcityfc.com/news/clarets-have-pre-sutton-injury-866695.htmlClarets Have Pre-Sutton Injury ConcernsTenth-placed Sutton United provide the opposition for Glenn Pennyfather’s Chelmsford City this Saturday at Melbourne Stadium (3:00pm kick-off), and the Clarets boss has a growing injury list to contend with as he aims to claim the points which could see them jump up to third position. Top scorer Jamie Slabber is still absent as he serves the final game of his three-match suspension, while goalkeeper Stuart Searle is still around a week to ten days away from fitness as he recovers from a leg injury. Also missing will be Justin Miller (ankle), Donovan Simmonds (hamstring) and Anthony Cook (knee). Paul Doswell’s Sutton side have been improving as the season has unfolded after a disastrous first few games which saw them rooted to the bottom of the table. Since then they’ve progressed to a position just outside the play-offs and their last three matches have ended in victories against Basingstoke Town, Eastbourne Borough and Blue Square Bet South leaders Welling United. Glenn said: “They’re a good side with a strong squad, and Paul’s had a change around in personnel over there. I said of Sutton and Eastleigh, even when they were in the bottom two, that they’d be involved in the promotion shake-up by the end of the season, and that’s proved to be the case. They’ve had to stand up and be counted.” “We’ve been on a decent run ourselves, with only two defeats in ten league games, and we’re no different to six weeks ago when we had to collect as many points as we could to finish as high as we can. We’re still in a good position and we’ve got some tough games coming up, but all we can do is concentrate on our own position.”

Not a great performance from the guys today. Lots of effort but we could not get our game together. Tom did play well saving a pen in the second half, also Harry O did his reputation little harm.

A distinct lack of comments on here from the game today, due to being ill I ended up listening to radio Clarets commentary (its a shame we haven't got a few more volunteers or we could that too?)
HarryO seemed to be our driving force and from what I heard if he had his shooting boots on we may have walked out with a share of the points. Chelmsford seemed to be very wasteful in front of goal maybe they caught our early season woes. Credit to Lovelock another penalty save and good game for him. MB sending off appears right as it was a high challenge but daft at that stage of the game in a non dangerous area?
Clarets were saying it was one of the best games they had seen for a while, we were never really out of it and their keeper needed to pull off a good save in injury time to secure the points. I don't think there should be too much doom and gloom and after all 3 previous meetings being close and going in our favour Chelmsford were probably due one - but the performance appeared ok if not stunning from this end?
BTW: Wrexham beat Gainsborough in their FAT semi today to reach Wembley for the 1st time in their history!

A 1 - 0 drubbing. Tom Lovelock was inspired and saved at least 4 one on ones as we were carved open many times. To have got a point would have been a complete mugging !

A hard-fought game against a Chelmsford side missing four of five first-choice players but who had enough strength in depth to show why they're fourth in the table. We were a bit open at the back in the continued absence of Simon Downer and but for some fine goalkeeping by Lovelock - including the penalty save - and wasteful shooting by the home side we would have been beaten more heavily. But we were never out of the game, Harry O going close a few times and Jamie Stuart's stoppage time header bringing an excellent save from the home keeper. As ever, Kenny Clark was superb at the heart of the Chelmo defence.
Michael Boateng's rather harsh sending off late in the match didn't affect us much. In truth he'd been having a poor game and so wasn't really missed!
We slip two places to 12th. With Eastleigh and Farnborough also losing and Boreham Wood only drawing, we haven't lost too much ground on the sides just above us. But to keep the play-offs in sight we probably now need a win at Havant next Saturday.

But for some outstanding 'keeping by Tom Lovelock & the home forwards not being able to hit a barn door, the 1-0 margin of defeat would have been far greater. Having said that, U's made chances too with Tom Jordan heading over a good chance, Harry O striking the post & skip being thwarted by the only save the home 'keeper had to make.
Not sure about MB's collection of yellows but he did seem to play the ball first (not that that counts these days). What I will say is, that having suffered a poor disciplinary record themselves recently, the City fans seemed to moan and whinge anytime when we went near their precious boys with conductor in chief Pennyfather doing his bit from the dug out & on numerous occasions, the pitch itself, not sure how we was allowed to get away with that. Their players too, Rainford in particular, were not forward in coming back. Just don't understand why referees put up with it.
A game too far for U's yesterday perhaps as City were quicker to the ball and our defence was ripped apart by runs from deep, particularly by their no 3. They may have lost a couple more injuries too, the impressive right back included. Perhaps if they sorted their pitch out, that must take it out of the the body if you play on it regularly, they might not suffer so many? I know the weather has taken its toll on many a surface but it was poor.
We can't win 'em all & Chelmsford certainly deserved the points yesterday.
Oh, marvellous programme once again.

Not too much to add from me that hasn't been stated. We were lucky only to lose by a single goal, mainly due to our standout player, Tom Lovelock. We were not really at the races, and although we can partly blame the pitch, which frankly was poor, it was more to do with the fact that we were well beaten by a better side.
Boatengs sending off, although looked a little harsh on that 2nd yellow (and the ref bowing to home pressure), I wasn't that bothered as he had had a shocker of a game and I thought we played better with 10 men!
Pennyfather, I thought, seemed to have the panic approach of a manager who could lose his job on one bad result. Luckily for him, he has quality players all over the park.
There seemed to be an altercation at the end of the game between Dos and one of their officials which could have turned nasty. Not too sure what happened as I got there at the tail end of it, but it was sad to see a minority of Sutton fans being what I thought as overly aggressive towards anyone who wasn't involved with Sutton they could shout at. Some of this was happening in the game too.
