Thanks to Co Sec for spotting this gem, the comments about me are only half true..... www.friendsoffulham.com/forum/index.php?topic=22272.30"I think it is now called Sutton Grammar School or something. Good school it was too. By rights it should have been a rugby school (we had as many rugger pitches as football), but the sports teacher was a certain Steve Bangs an attacking midfielder in the mould of Bryan Robson who played for Sutton United, so he did not care one bit about rugby, I think I played it twice. We were generally pretty useless at football, but for some reason Peter Fear's year was simply sensational - they went about 3 years without losing a match if I remember correctly. Apart from Fear, there was another guy called Gerard Mills who played for Wimbledon and was excellent. Unlike Fear, he was more interested in boozing and partying than knuckling down and subsequently now works in insurance."The official line is that I had a series of injuries.

"Unlike Fear, he was more interested in boozing and partying than knuckling down" [/i][/quote] Now that is worrying

Yes. Fearo's lack of interest in boozing and partying is notorious as anyone who used to drink in the plough back in the nineties will readily testify. I used to watch steve bangs play at GGL on a sat and then watch him turn out up front as a ringer in the morden and district on a Sunday. Those were the days

It is quite amusing, intrigued as to the identity of the author, in a good way.

Yes Hon Sec. would be interesting to know who made the comments. When I was there Ted Powell was in charge of the football teams and at that time we had a pretty good squad - at least four county players and one England player as well as the likes of Bangsy and myself. Some went on to play for Sutton. Steve of course then became sports teacher at the school and indeed I coached one of the teams for 5 years. Considering the amount of links people at the club have with the school it is suprising that we haven't developed more of a partnership.

Steve Bangs was my teacher at Sutton grammar School, did he play in the Coventry game? Was he an attacking midfielder?

No, Steve was before the Coventry game. He started out as a centre-half and then played for us at left-back.

From memory the subs were Justin Horner and Graham Morris, but I'm sure MarkF or Pressec will correct me if I'm wrong.

Bangs played for corinthian casuals when i was at the school in the early 90s. He was one of those teachers who only liked the kids who were already good at sports, he had no interest in the ones who needed help the most. also he lumped me in with all the fatties because i was overweight when i joined the school, once he'd made up his mind about you that was it. good footballer he may have been but good teacher? not so sure! however, i seem to remember our school team being one of the best around, not that i ever got near it (not even the 'C' team haha). We also had the venerable John Rains 'teaching' football for a bit, that was an experience!

When I was there in the 70's, I had Ted Powell in charge for a year and then a certain Mr Blunt. Lessons didn't matter to the school team. We had, football, football and more football. A fine bunch of players in the team. Quite a few went on to non league and one, Mark Morris was part of the Crazy Gang at Wimbledon. And then there was me.....

Mark Morris was of course manager at Dorchester on at least one of our visits there, if not two - when Paul Honey seemed to land in the dugout each time, break something and end up in hospital.
In fact, I spoke briefly with Mark Morris last week as he came to collect his window cleaning money.

I think you have the same window cleaner as me.
I thought he came a long way for the windows. I didn't make the link

It used to be his Dad's round, Jeff Morris. Mark moved to Dorset and ran a pub for a while, hence linking up with Dorchester Town. Moved back to these parts a while ago.
