When you look at the chaos just up the road in Gatwick, we have been very lucky.
Luckily I had not packed the winter clothes away yet. It will be cold standing in that turnstile box tonight!!

It snowed a lot in Sutton yesterday but none of it stuck around for more than a couple of hours.

First BSS game off tonight - Dorchester v our opponents on Saturday, Farnborough. We therefore need a win tonight to climb up the table. A draw will see us level on points with an inferior gd. With Havant, Basingstoke and Maidenhead all playing tonight (the latter two of those playing each other), a draw could see us losing a place or two. The key game for us to watch tonight is Eastleigh V Boreham Wood - ideally we want a win and them to draw. Let's keep our side of the bargain

It seemed uncertain whether or not Truro have a fit keeper for the game tonight, can anyone clear this up?

I recall last year they came with one sub and managed to claim a point. Start fast as we have been at home recently, get on the board and go from there. Hope we can make it 6 in a row at home.

Truro were pretty awful all over the park, and made virtually no attempt to win. They parked the bus and rarely ventured into Sutton's half all match, and brought out the rugby tackles in the second half which the ref did nothing about except give free kicks. Good riddance to them. Having said that, Sutton were sloppy, and I can't remember a single shot on target from them all night (though they hit the post once) so can't really complain at losing.

Now can we plan for next season? Dire, flat performance from 1st minute til last. Fans also flat from the start. Terrible game, one header against the post from a corner was the sum of our efforts. Need to find a cutting edge and a way to break down a side keeping everyone behind the ball. Need to replace half the side if we want to be in the higher spots next year. Too many poor performances where we can't score and don't look much like doing so.

When playing the bottom club you need to be on your game from the start. Start fast and give their confidence a going over. Generally, U's have done that of late but not tonight. Truro had three good efforts before we finally sprung into life but with only skip's header against the post to show for any forward play.
Second half, it was all u's but once again we couldn't test the 'keeper evidence that we are the third lowest goal scoring side in the division. Caught in possession, U's were in trouble before skip brought their forward down dead centre. Up steps their dead ball expert & he duly delivered. Match lost.
The following possibly sums up our season. Take 4 points off the team most likely to win the division but lose at home to the team most likely to finish bottom. Truro was not the worst side we've played this season but tonight probably ended any lingering play-off hopes there may have been.
Fortunately there were few people to witness tonight's defeat. There was not even the encouragement from Dos from the dug out and perhaps that was somewhat missed.
Still, could be worse, I wasn't stuck on the A23 for 10 hours at Handicross last night. Every cloud, eh?

Well, those who stayed at home in the warm made the right decision. Tonight's was the worst game I've seen all season, and probably the worst Sutton performance. Saturday's 0-0 in the Kingfield mud was better than this. There was no energy or rhythm to our play, with passes consistently going astray. Truro - as you'd expect - set up to defend in numbers and try to catch us on the break and their game plan worked a treat. Even before their goal - a low free kick that was about the game's only moment of quality - they'd had the better of what few chances there were in open play. It's hard to believe that this was the Sutton team that played so well against Welling just four weeks ago and fought back to beat Bromley 4-3 last Tuesday.

I agree with the above we lacked energy we didn't get going at all for 20mins which is normally our best spell. We bought the signs from Saturday saying come and deliver a sucker punch we are game! We were again woeful at delivery into the box and our movement was poor. I have just seen the highlights of Barca v Inter which shows how to go about beating a side who just want to sit back against you. Dundo did his best again but too many others we well below par. We have not tested the oppos keeper in 2 matches now and for a side with 70% of the possession that is not really good enough.
I am glad I don't support Truro being bottom and going down you would think that they would be looking to play some football. To simply defend for 90mins to me seems pointless in their position as they will as they do lose more then they win playing like that?
We give too many cheap free kicks away too, one of which cost us a point tonight. I have looked at the penalty incident from both angles in slow mo and for me the ref got it wrong?
The reason we scored 4 against Bromley and beat sides like Welling is they come to play which gives us space. Clearly the way to get anything out of us is to sit deep and hit the ball long.

Having witnessed the Havant game, I was quite willing to accept "a bad day at the office" - we get a couple every season. But then, 10 days later to out do it in that fashion was quite shameful.
Lets put this in a bit of perspective - a team who have lost 20 out of their 33 games, not kept a clean sheet for the previous 14, have let in on average 2 goals per league game, who got thumped by an average Bromley side on Saturday and had to travel nearly 300 miles to get here.
I know football isn't all about stats but it's these matches we have to have a positive result from to show more of our play-off credentials. I'd previously said that however much I'd love us to be in a play off match, overall we are simply not good enough. Tonight proved it through and through. Terrible passing, especially in the first half, a total lack of shape and no plan B when it was obvious Truro we going to play the counter attack game. The thing that worried me the most was the lack, in my opinion, of leadership and passion tonight. I know it was a cold night and I can imagine the players would rather be somewhere else in those conditions, but the same applies for Truro. Some of our players tonight were not just half arsed, they were a liability.
To be fair there was a spell in the first half and in the second where we were building up pressure, but how many times did we blast wide, blast over, or just give the ball away cheaply? And unlike Saturday we can't blame the pitch for it, which for March is looking fantastic!
We're 10 points off a play off place. With 12 games left to play it's not impossible, but what I saw tonight reminded me of the 2007/8 season. We need better, we deserve better, and with the players we have, we know we should do better than that.

As bad as we were last night I'm not sure comparing us to Barcelona will do anyone any good! I don't know exactly what you expect from Truro? I thought they got forwards at time and had a little bit of a threat about them, kept a clean sheet and from their point of view got a fantastic away win which I'm sure they'll enjoy. Would have taken something similar from us at Chelmsford and Havant! As Mark said their performance was better than other sides we have seen down here (Staines, Bath, Havant spring immediately to mind). They certainly showed a bit more passion than us on and off the field. Even though their 2 fans were a little worse for wear they certainly showed a lot of passion!! I'm not sure how, given their reported level of debt, they have manged to keep going and get any sort of side out TBH.
