As an old fan following from afar I rely on the internet and my best mate Frakey to keep me up to date on the U's. He was able to enlighten me on recent events with regard to players moving on etc. I was reassured by what he told me that Sutton is still a model club in terms of not living beyond their means yet still providing a very good standard of football. Reading Dos and Bruce's comments only reinforce this. Indeed Sutton are privileged to have the likes of Dos and Bruce as guardians of this wonderful club. We are lucky to have them

I second that wholeheartedly.
We might not win every game and not every player who pulls on the choccy and amber will give their best at all times but the management of the club is in very safe hands.

And I think that deep down we all know that, but sometimes forget I have never lost faith in this club.

Agree totally too. As i said previously anyone who thinks that just needs to look back to the 2007/8 season before they realise how lucky we are with the management. And how constantly lucky we are having Bruce steer the ship

The biggest revelation is that Frakey has a best mate!

Whatever happened to Archie, Stewart? Wasn't it he and you who set up the original amber planet forum?

The last time I saw him was a couple of years ago at Tonbridge. He lost interest during our relegation season. He and Medway Yellow wrote the match reports for U's On The Net website.

That's a shame. Find it odd that someone that involved can lose interest on the back of a bad year. But I don't know the guy and maybe there was more to it. Maybe we should start a campaign to 'bring back the lost U's (ewes)'!

Maybe we should start a campaign to 'bring back the lost U's (ewes)'! At least five very keen fans I knew then have all stopped coming to games for various reasons. BTW garethl you have reached a 1000 posts

Haha does this mean I have to take a long hard look at myself?! My wife certainly thinks so!

That season was very nearly the end for us after what would have been 25 years.
If it wasn't for the fact that we would probably have less contact (or lost) with some very good friends it probably would have been. I know I shared my thoughts with someone at the time who posted various similar comments they were hearing at the time.

Which got me thinking, would I stop supporting my clubs (Sutton & Palace). I think if I moved from the area, I would get involved with the local non-league side, but I don't think I could stop supporting Sutton, even if I never went to watch them.

I don't want to get into controversial ground but I cannot believe people would turn their back on their club just because they happened to be rubbish for a while? We are lucky at Sutton to have enjoyed so much relative success over the years, we have done things that other clubs of our level could only dream of.
No one is entitled to success or winning every week and we have had our share of crapness with 07/08 probably being one of the lowest points (in more ways then one) we have had. But those who endured that season and kept believing bought Dos to this club, 3 sets of playoffs, a Championship, 2 x 1st round FA cup appearances including our first ever live televised game. We are in a position where mid table in the BBS isn't good enough anymore for many!
For me unless you have been at the bottom and tasted that feeling you will never ever really appreciate success.
