Thurrock, the only team who time waste at nil-nil...
Frustrating day, stupid mistakes in defence and in goal again and goal line clearances and scrambles ahoy in our attacks. Ashers goal was an absolute belter though, smashed into the far top corner from just outside the end of the 18 yard box (for those not there who want to try and picture it; if you were behind the goal we were attacking he was on what would've been your left hand side) and struck with perfect technique.
It has to be well in with a shout for goal of the season and i'm sure i had the best view in the ground to see it from too
Still, despite rallying briefly after and seeing a hearts in mouths goal line clearance and scramble we didn't get anything and Gonsalves second yellow for taking out a Thurrock player clean through means another ban for him.
In terms of the team we have though, there are players not good enough and players who need to get back to their best sharpish and i'm hoping that the new manager has the b*llocks to tell be people to feck off and utilise the mid-week reserve games as game time for first team players.
Nicky Greene again proved that though nifty with the ball he's too bloody small. Yet again being muscled off the ball and putting in some stupidly ineffectual corners. Though with no height in the box there's not a lot to aim for.
Again we had the usual single brilliant run and cross that he usually musters each game that shows he has talent but he loses the ball so much i'm beginning to question what he brings.
Moving on, Quinton, a uselessly backward signing who was completely anonymous tonight and lacked the pace to pick up a through ball that would've opened up Thurrock's defence. The real question though is, resigning Tony Quinton... Why?
Hammond finally showed signs of being useful having came on at the end today but again, why sign a lightweight midfielder when it is so patently obvious we need a bit of physical Ug like bulk to stop the midfield merely being a place the opposition saunters through on their way to goal?
Zak Graham, though he's rightfully not been near the team for a while, hasn't scored and never looks like doing so. If it wasn't for that contract he'd be playing Ryman South at best by now.
As everybody is well aware i have a certain bias in who wears the goalkeeping jersey but for fucks sake this is getting ridiculous, Phil, seemingly having spent the summer at the Luke Naughton school of goalkeeping, has been at fault for three (arguably four if you expect him to pick up speeding forwards let through by a sleepy back four for the first Thurrock goal today) goals in three games with the one through his hands at Bromley, the third at Eastbourne that went straight through his arm and then being beaten at the near post today. Add that to the early season cock ups with the defence and it's just not good enough.
Warren hasn't scored for a month and his undoubted talent is being squandered by his poor decision making and a dodgy touch brought on by him seemingly just running like a nutter with his book of Brazilian football tricks as his only guide.
He's clearly desperate to score and we all know he can but the obvious desperation is just leading to errors and frustration.
Surely a game in the reserves would be beneficial over the break. At a lower level he's bound to score and it might also be a helpful reminder that he isn't a dead cert starter. Turning up on time would be nice too.
Scarbs has been caught out far more this season too and most of his best tackling has come chasing a man whose just left him for dead. Clearly massively passionate but needs to concentrate and communicate better, particularly as Captain.
You may well think i'm talking sh*t and i've no doubt i've not impressed any lurking players or management but f*ck it. Five points from a possible THIRTY-NINE is terrible.
There's potential in this side but it's being inhibited by people with not enough balls to acknowledge problems and deal with them.
I know full well without a manager addressing some of this isn't possible but by the next game we will have one and he wouldn't do too badly to know what we know when he gets here rather than wasting precious weeks and points finding out what we already know.
