Is this likely to affect attendances at GGL next year?

Is this likely to affect attendances at GGL next year? No. With Chelsea and Fulham already there, will make no difference at all to our crowds

I doubt the flag waving, flare launching, faux ultra twats who've crawled out of the woodwork in the last twelve months have ever been to GGL so my answer is no.

A club so close in proximity in the premier league can never be a good thing unless we tap into their support when they are away, which hasn't to my knowledge happened to date. Even if they only last a year in the premier league days like yesterday and the exposure of next season could see them pick up a good chunk of the next generation in our locality. Maybe boom and bust pays off after all?!!

Being Palace, they'll struggle all season, get relegated and be back to crowds of 12-14000 within 2 years. The last two times they attempted top flight Football it didn't have a massive effect on our crowds. If we're challenging at the top of the table then Palace in the PL will have no effect on our attendances IMO

Bearing in mind Palace are 8 miles from GGL and both Chelsea and Fulham are around 9 miles from GGL, I really don't think there will be much effect, or any significant change in the number of Chelsea replica shirts worn in pubs in the borough.
What will make a difference to the crowd will be how we get our message across, both from the club and from the supporters. Performing well will certainly help that no end!

On which point, can I remind everyone about the need to appoint a matchday marketing person ? suttonunited.proboards.com/thread/5278/help-club-new-role-created We need someone who can coordinate a pr campaign for matches, posters-twitter-facebook etc and also help with ideas for "themed" or promotional games. We have jogged along until now with difefrent people doing things as and when, but we think that it would be better to have one person who can devote their energies to one objective, ie getting more people in through the turnstiles. If you'd be interested, let me know. Dave F

The Holmesdale Fanatics, as they call themselves, have been around since 2005, so it's been a long 12 months! It will have an effect on the Sutton crowd, because I'll have to buy a Palace season ticket now. OK, it's only one, but the original question didn't ask how big an effect, just would there be one.

It's a great chance for experience in the PR world.

It really is a key role, as every ten people we can add to the average gate adds circa £1200 per season to the bottom line and we all know that anything under 700 people can seem lost in GGL

Had one for many years, gave it up last year, and looked what happened! You often missed Sutton's best performances last season Tony. Sorry, I think you will be watching a losing side next season
