I like many others had been looking forward to this game with plenty of optimism, but after 90 mins came away with a sinking feeling. Eastleigh were dominant especially in first half when they scored a scrappy goal but they all count. Jamie Slabber injured himself in the warm up which probably meant
Dos had to rethink his line up. Felt they did not play as a team with many passes going astray. A big moment in the first half when James broke clear and was hauled down, ref only gave a yellow. I tried to convince myself that Sutton had one testing shot on goal, but I don't think they did. In the dying moments Sutton had a couple of half chances but could not get a shot on goal. Thought Eastleigh were very professional querying the Refs decisions and bullying the linesman , their goalkeeper took the opportunity to waste time when ever he could, after they had scored. Having said that they deserved their 3 points, and for Sutton its two home games on the trot, so lets get 6 points.

Another season, another close defeat at the Silverlake.
But lets put this in perspective - on paper (and according to the bookies) we've just lost 1-0 to what should be our toughest game of the season. I think it was a quiet game mainly due to the fact that the two sides cancelled each other out pretty much. The only difference was a defensive error. With the exception of a quite fantastic save by Tom in the 2nd half, neither keeper was really tested, and both sides were limited to half chances. Who knows what could have been the case if we had Slabber fit (and hoping he is fit soon) but if this is the best this league has got then I don't think there's any reason for a Sutton supporter to be to disheartened today. We were lacking up front, esp Marvin who literally got physically got put out of the game. But there were enough signs there to know we can build on that. We were sloppy in possession, but the conditions were pretty slippy out there.
Mr Holdsworth was there today looking at possible rivals, and I think he'd go away not too much the wiser, and probably slightly worried. I think both us and Eastleigh will be a tough nut to crack, although there were times in the first part of the 2nd half where their defence looked very vunerable. The disappointment was that up front, it looks very similar to the start of last year. But then remember 2 years ago when we opened against Woking...
We've had worse starts to the season, including I think our 0-0 draw at Concord the year we walked with the Ryman league. The next two games are very winnable against sides who according to the bookies will be in the bottom half of the league. But we do need to be more potent in front of goal - the freekicks today were especially ineffective.

If you're looking for positives then, yes, we only lost 1-0 to the title favourites. But this was a disappointing performance. As others have said, we need to improve our set pieces. Eastleigh weren't a lot better than us, but bigger and stronger and a bit quicker to the ball when it mattered.

Eastleigh were no better than us but were well organised at the back.We just didn't create enough against them in my opinion.Losing Slabber to a warm up injury didn't help Dos's plans and with Binns injured as well we had to re-organise.Lets hope we can put Staines to the sword on Tuesday night.

The comment about Dos watching them in pre-season, says as much about how close he lives to the Eastleigh ground as anything else. We have a scout to do the teams that are less local to Paul.
"Bless him" what a patronising comment to make.

He comes across as a bit of a "dickhead"! Indeed. Joke club. You almost look forward to their eventual and inevitable demise.

Scannell has left Eastleigh, where could he end up? I really hope this is not a "Oooo I know something you don't" post.

Local newspaper in Eastleigh suggests Sutton and Bromley interested in Scannell. Not apparent where/how Sutton could accomodate him.
