I'm afraid we didn't take our chances.

But nor did they. Rivs headed two of the line in the second half and Tom made a superb stop in the first. 180+ mins at Concord and no goals for either side.
Rangers were pretty direct in their approach and in a scrappy first half with a stiff(ish) breeze on U's back, at times, so were we. Second half U's got the ball down and played some good stuff but were foiled by some good defending or a little lack of quality.
best chance for U's fell to Dale Binns after a great move down the left pulled Concord apart but with time to take a touch and then shoot, Binnsy fired the ball over with a first time effort. He looked gutted after.
First clean sheet of the season with Skip and Downer impressive at the back. Rivs had his best game this season and U's looked more assured once Ali was on.
Four games four points: based on what has been seen so far this is going to be tough division this season.

All I'm gonna say on this one is that it would be wrong to be harsh on Dale Binns for that miss, considering he played very well throughout and looks like a quality player in general

If we had got the goal at the end we would all be saying we got a very good away win against yet another tough well organised side. We didn't do a lot wrong except miss a couple of invitations to take all the points at the end. First clean sheet in 12 matches has to be a positive although we are still creeking at the back especially on the right side.
I thought Concord looked very similar to Stortford well organised tough big center backs and they played in a similar vein in closing down early squeezing the midfield and looking to hit the ball over our heads into the channels. Its a very effective system at our level, you need quality to unlock these sides and I thought Dale had a excellent game looking the most likely to find the key. We are still yet to see our first choice 11 on the pitch and we ended without Taylor or Slabber on the pitch today. I thought Rents had a good game they got very little change out of him all afternoon.
I agree its going to be a tough league this season but the title won't be won by sides like Stortford or Concord, it will be won by the side which learns best how to pick locks IMO.

Has anyone blamed Binnsy? No. Just stated a fact. I suspect, indeed have seen him score that sort of goal in the past. Just not today.

Would think this will look like a good point later in the season. It's the home losses we can't afford. Would like to see us settle on our best side at some stage very soon, albeit I know Slabber currently out and we have none of the info on what knocks individuals are carrying that the mangt are privy to. Very hard to chop and change at this level and carry on winning, possibly no surprise our fine run at the end of last season happened after reducing the squad and having no room to tinker? No need to panic yet of course but I really feel to get a few more people in the ground this season and capitalise on recent good work in pre season we need to be near the top pretty quickly.

As a spectacle this wasn't a lot better than watching paint dry (and so wasn't unlike our previous visit to Concord three years ago) as we laboured for 90 minutes to break down a stubborn home defence. In the first half their keeper did well to tip over a looping Taylor header but otherwise was hardly tested. The better chances fell to the home side - at least until Binns blazed over an open goal in the 93rd minute. Scannell played the first half but after being scythed down on the edge of the area he looked subdued and didn't appear for the second. Telfer and Downer brought some calmness back to the defence - about the only positive we can take from the match is our first clean sheet since Bath away at the end of April.

I have just fallen off my chair laughing Was that the same chair you sat in for 5 days watching a cricket match which had 10 mins to go a result which go either way. People on the edge of their seats only for a technical rule which makes no sense seeing the match end in a draw with 25,000 wide open gobs? Now that is funny!

Despite the nature of the game, I enjoyed the trip over to Canvey Island yesterday. Was good to meet a few U's! Thanks for being welcoming to a 'northern monkey' as I was dubbed at Brentford!! Will be back down for the game on Saturday.

I have just fallen off my chair laughing Huh? It's been nearly 6 months since we drew a game 0-0 (9 March v Hayes & Yeading).
