Dover down to 10 men with a player sent off for a dive (2nd booking). A bit contentious apparently

Great result for us tonight. First half we came out with real purpose against strong opponents and came close to matching that pressing, high tempo style that did us so well back end if last season. Really good to see slabs back and he had a good game, holding the ball up, getting the flick ons and he had a great chance to score that he screwed just wide. A few more games under his belt and he will be back to his best . Binns and mac were busy and it was a fine finish by deano for the one nil and we deserved that lead. Looked solid at the back with Charlie making his debut.
Second half got a bit scrappy to be fair. I don't know if we ran out of steam a bit or if Dover upped it and broke us up a bit easier. By the middle of the second half the game took a surreal turn when the ref seemed to lose it and made a string of bizarre calls against both sides which culminated with Dover going down to ten men. Didn't change the shape of the game though and we were heart in mouths as we got pegged back a bit for a while.
By the close the game was stretched and we had a couple of good chances to kill the game off but in the end we held out and secured an important and morale boosting win that will see us off the road for Havant and Whitehawk with some momentum. On we go.

When the pitch is wet, grassy but true, a good fast game is possible but tonight bordered on the frenetic at time. Thought Dover looked half decent tonight but hats of to our defenders who did well tonight. Great debut by Charlie but a silly booking I believe will mean another one match ban. Good debut too by the young lad from Gillingham.
Our goal came from some quality play initially by Binnsy and then Slabs and Rivs to set up Deano to fire in off the post. U's controlled the match for a while after before Dover ended the half strongly. They carried that into the second half and we looked a bit leggy until making the changes. The second yellow for Ademola, if he did dive was stupid and he did his ankle too by the looks of it. Getting a red for that and kicking the ball away is nonsensical (assuming it was a dive).
It took about an hour for a yellow to finally arrive for a foul and in the end there were 8 bookings (including the second for their fellow) in a match that I'm not sure had a really bad tackle in it. Modern football as Billy would say. Or just more eccentric refereeing?
Both sides had to make clearances off the line as the match ended in a frenetic end to end contest. Maybe not for the purists but good entertainment for another disappointing crowd.
We take the three points and it was great to see Jamie Slabber back and he was more than useful in the first half and will get better as long as he can stay injury free.
I expect Dover will feel a bit hard done by but this league is certainly proving to be tough with a very level playing field with regard the quality of the teams.

Can someone tell me what the ref was on tonight. I think its probably fairer to call it a bizarre display rather than an awful one. From what I saw of the sending off, I can see why Dover will feel robbed by that. Possibly the oddest sending off we'll see this season at GGL. Was someone counting how many yellows were dished out? I expect it was in double figures.
But anyway, an unfamiliar line up gave a good performance, especially in the first half. Clough made a good debut, as well as Kyle and Mr Slabber in his first competitive game for us.
2nd half was a little shaky and the passing it around the back always makes us fans rather nervous, but with a little luck (esp from the goalmouth scramble) we held onto the lead. It wouldn't have been too unfair if Dover did equalise, but tonight it wasn't to be. Last season at home in the same fixture we let a 2 goal lead slip away through stupid mistakes. That didn't happen tonight.
Good 3 points all around, and moves us up to 6th. Eastleigh won again, and so did Bromley - 7 and 6 points above us. 2 teams near the bottom who are not used to that are Boreham Wood and Chelmsford.

After the disappointment at the end of Saturday's match we earned a bit of good luck this evening. Had Dover a clinical finisher in their line-up they'd probably have got something from this match. Despite their height advantage they weren't particularly dominant in the air, but their pressing game meant there were spells when we struggled to get out of our half. We looked most effective when breaking at pace and spreading the ball to the wings, which we could do more effectively in the closing stages when they were down to ten men. MOTM was Dale Binns, whose fizzing cross led to McDonald's goal.
The three points take us up to 6th which is where we got to last April when we ran out of season. There's plenty of this season to go!

I thought we shaded it tonight and produced a bit of quality not matched by Dover and showed dogged determination to keep a clean sheet. Dover looked to be one of the better sides we have faced so far and I will be surprised if we don't finish very close to each other in the table.
2 good debutante performances tonight and great to see Slabber back out there. A pat on the back to Mitch tonight for keeping his concentration apart from one sloppy pass across the back 4. My man of the match was Dean Mc, I think he showed quality throughout the 95mins? and got the important goal too. On the subject of that goal, I am not sure if it was Rivs who squared? But blimey that extra pass when he could have pulled the trigger himself was very Arsenal like, why shoot when you can see the whites of the keepers eyes when you can find another pass, a real touch of quality.
As for the ref well I think someone said 8 yellows tonight and that follows on from 6 on Saturday without a serious foul taking place. After watching premiership football on Sky over the weekend, ever those officials have got it wrong or there is something a miss down here in the basement?

Much better tempo. We were on it. Dover out on their feet by the end. Most direct side I've seen for a very long time, they really do just whack it up as far and long as possible. Most the time they didn't even get runners off their big men. We defended well and strongly, centre half pairing did well, they are horrible to watch but could have got a point as we went off the boil a bit. Surprised that there is a thought they are one of the better sides we have faced. On that showing poor up front and not much in the middle of the park. Can see why they struggle to break sides down at home and why fans are staying away down there. Not often good sides lose 4 in a row in the league. Whenever we played we looked likely to score 1st half, 2nd we couldnt keep up the pace and quality which was inevitable.

P.s their 3 what a joke. Park player summed up by his park shout at the start of the 2nd half about having the hill 2nd half!! Dissent at every decision, proper idiot.

By far our best defensive performance of the season (and at times it needed to be). Jamie was superb defensively and Charile made a big difference. Highlight for me though was the performance of Tom Lovelock. For the first time Tom looked commanding on crosses (against large opposition), catching and punching confidently and knocking people out the way if he had to. Great to see him add that to his game because he is a superb shot-stopper.
