I will be making the trip down with a few (hopefully vocal) mates to celebrate my birthday. Hopefully we secure a win to make it a good one.

A one nil win takes us to the next round, any idea when the draw takes place?

Job done. A scrappy game played on a rock hard pitch with an increasingly strong wind swirling around the chalk downs. We scored early. Binns took on and beat two men dragged the ball back and Kane finished with class. I thought we might be in for a few goals as hawks seemed to struggle with pace and movement but the game became increasingly aerial and long passes, and even one bizarre back pass from chas, getting caught in the wind and loads of balls ended up either keeper to keeper or out of play. Not a day for the purist but all that matters in an away cup tie is getting your name in the hat for the next round. Ref seemed to have it in for Kane who got a yellow for a second offence when their seven seemed to be able to hack away at our lads with impunity. There was some typical ref lunacy at the end of the first half where he managed to get just about everything wrong in a straightforward situation that almost provoked a 22 man tag team contest. Hawks could have equalised with about ten left from a free header but likewise we had a couple of late chances but in the end we were happy to stick it out for the narrow win. Binns motm for me. Draw Monday noon I believe. Enjoyed the trip to whitehawk. With the ground down a windy and long cart track Christ knows what they would ever do if they got a serious crowd. Their were more of us than them and generally I imagine that the sheep outnumber the fans. The lashed up seats from the withdean look a bit nuts and out of place but the club house facilities were great. Didn't have a slipper but junior voted the hot dogs passable. On that note mark n's dog punched me in the nuts before the game which seemed to amuse a few people. On we go.

In other games, a couple of major upsets - Dorchester lose 0-1 at home to Shortwood United, and Chemlsford lose 2-0 to Biggleswade. Could Holdsworth be the first managerial casualty from the Skrill South this season.
Our scheduled opponents on the date of the next round, Bath, beat Gosport 2-0, so even if we had a defeat today, we'd have not gone to Bath. The side we are due to face the date of the 4th Qualifying Round, Weston, also went through, beating Basingstoke 3-1 at Camrose.
Teams from our section still in the draw on Monday include Hartley Wintney, Chatham Town, Chipstead, Dulwich, Leatherhead and Lewes, as well as a number of Skrill south sides.

Well, a bit of a round trip because of the M25 accident but we got there; cheers Kiddo. A nice stroll down the winding lane to The Enclosed Ground. Have to say, been to worse places although probably wouldn't fancy it in mid-Winter. One thing that stood out was the size of the pitch, particularly the width.
As for the match. U's started well and scored early thanks to another good strike by young Kane after great work by Binnsy and Mac's lay off. Playing up the slope and against the wind Sutton certainly continued to enjoy the early stages. The home side were quite happy to punt the ball long but I thought Cloughy and once again the excellent skip coped well.
Kane picked up a yellow for a second foul. No probs with that but then why did their 7 not get booked for deliberate handball after he had committed a foul as bad as Kane's two?
The match lacked quality on a grassy but uneven surface. The fracas before half-time led to a caution for Slabs and their 7 who had run along way to get involved. The obvious question that having hacked down Kane, why was the perpetrator of the challenge not cautioned and why in the hell did the ref give them the free-kick? And the 7 should have been walking for a second yellow. I tell you, the refereeing gets more bizarre or just plain awful each week.
In the second, U's fashioned some good openings and in the last ten probably should have scored a second with Binnsy pulling the best chance wide. He also had a nailed on pen totally ignored by the incompetent man in black. Hawks had a couple of late headers but U's were comfortable if not spectacular in victory.
MOM for me was a toss up between Skip, Rivs and Binnsy. It most definitely was not the ref!!
The only down side is a midweek trip to Bath beckons. The Connie South really knows how to look after its clubs' fans.

So Dexter gets his first mention on the forum. Hope Bornatotter's wedding tackle is in order as he packs a punch for a little fellow!!
Onto the game, it turned into a scrappy affair but we are through and it is another clean sheet too. Don't know what the money was but every little helps as they say.
I agree that Dale Binns was probably MOTM but Dundo had a very good second half I thought.
As for the ground, it was nothing like what people had warned and everybody down there was very friendly. Looked different but that's non league I suppose.
Here's to a good draw on Monday!

Well that was another adventure, new ground, M25 turned into a car park destroying all my carefully laid out plans. In the end the area is no where near as bad as some have suggested and we have been to far worse. The ground is a little odd but not gross and you can get quite comfortable in the seats behind the goals, although a real winters day could be a challenge. My only gripe really was the pitch, it would not have looked out of place at Sunningdale twisted and heavily sloped I thought it played far to big a part in the match. The wind didn't help either but when all said and done we fully deserved our win and maybe 1-0 flatters the home side who as said had a couple of late opportunities to force a replay. I think our 1st half performance up the slope was thoroughly professional, we defended well all afternoon 270 mins now without conceding and that ties in with Charlie coming into the side. I know Binnsy did well but I am dying to give a MOTM to Charlie, I think he has made a huge difference. I reckon we will get Lewes in the next round as I dropped my son off at Lewes station and turned around in the Dripping Pan car park - so its been written

I don't remember a side making so few chances against us in a match. I think that will mean more to PD than anything other than the result. The whole back four played well and when needed Tom was off his line to deal with any threats. Binns does excite when on the ball and he works well with the excellent Mc Donald. As for the ground, I liked it.

Great away trip, dull match. We did just enough to win the tie. 'Nuff said.

I agree with Amber Aleman - not great entertainment but job done.
I feel sorry for Whitehawk fans if the sea breeze impacts on the quality of football at all their home matches like that - and yesterday the weatther was generally good.

One of their fans was telling me you want to try an Tuesday night game in January when the rain is blowing in horizontal off the channel. Apparently that's a real test. I enjoyed their ultras and their heavily ironic we are the famous whitehawk chant. Even better was the father ted inspired "are you small or faraway?" aimed at the sheep up on the hill. Classy stuff.

Mission accomplished.
Six Skrill South sides were knocked out of the Cup yesterday with another two bound to go out on Tuesday and two others facing tricky replays with non Skrill South teams. i am just delighted we are not one of them. Weekend saved.
Here's hoping we get a home draw tomorrow.
Well done to the players and the Management team for getting it right yesterday in awkward conditions.
Long live the FA Cup.

Long Live the FC Cup.......Unable to go to Whitehawk, had to be back in Dorset no later than 7PM. the A27 can be a pretty slow road at times. Not wishing to miss out on the FA cup chose the nearest game to me Hamworthy Utd from the Wessex League V Poole Town Town Southern League a local derby. Poole ran out winners 4 - 2 in an entertaining game, watched by some 400 followers. Poole Town aiming for promotion to Conf. South so could be a new ground for many. Well done Sutton, I understand the winners banked £4,500. very useful cash.
