Other than than the away trip being just east of brighton there were other similarities today with the trip to whitehawk. An early goal and then closing it out to the death for the win and that's all that matters. We started off with plenty of pressure as the massed ranks of sutton fans on the steep terrace at the town end gave it plenty of verbals. A snap shot from dundo , the keeper parried it out and slabs rammed home with the poachers finish. Can't say I was overly impressed with lewes one dimensional aerial game but with only a one goal lead in a a one off game gambling on route one could always catch you out. I felt a two goal lead would kill off any possible threat and Jamie t had a golden op at the far post after great work by maccer but pushed it just wide when it looked a cert. so one nil half time. Second half the ref had a shocker. Along with lewes going ultra physical to try and wind it up this clown got a number of key decisions so badly wrong I feared he might let them back in by default. Bad yellows all against us , wrong calls and him and the Lino completely missing skip getting laid out off the ball. Piss poor to be honest. Still we had at least two good chances to kill it off, one that Mitch dragged just wide and one for slabs where there man got a superb block in when a goal looked bang on. Anyway, despite huffing and puffing lewes were seriously limited up front and our defence, all if whom were great today including binnsy at left back for Sam again. Job done. Money in the bank and the name in the hat and let's hope we get a home draw. Two other items to report. Longest queue for a slipper and a cup of splosh since Thurrock away and really nearly lost patience with the gobby little shites who decided to giggle and ponce about in our end throughout the second half. At the end we walked back round for a jack dash before the drive home and were there to witness the lunatic fringe giving Jamie Stuart the big one as he came off the pitch and enjoyed Jamie waving them goodbye and asking who wAs in the draw for the next round. Nice one son.

Good to see the Dripping Pan has changed little since our last visit and nor would it appear would be the local inhabitants, who's understanding of the laws of the game is brought into question by their reaction to some of the stuff that went on today. If they think throwing your arm into an opponent's face or robustly barging into a player off the ball is legal I'm glad I don't have to watch the Lewes brand every week.
Another comfortable away cup victory in Sussex. Very much like the Whitehawk match, U's got themselves in front and the home side never found one decent goal scoring opportunity to threaten that lead.
U's started well but for all that pressure it was some kamikaze defending that set up the goal. Dundo pounced on an under hit pass, fired a shot at the 'keeper who could only parry out and Slabs banged in. JT missed a fantastic chance from Dean Mac's cross to extend that lead.
The second half was littered with free-kicks and yellow cards but U's showed excellent ball retention capabilities and with skip and SD superb at the back, Lewes never got a sniff.
Rivs, who had another excellent match headed just over after a fine move involving one touch passing. Kane Haysman set up Slabs but he delayed his effort and it was blocked by a terrific piece of defending. Mitch then broke through but fired across the goal and wide.
Have to mention the ref. He started ok but should have sent off Olurunda for his arm into Binnsy face and missed the off the ball challenge by their no 12 too. It was robust if not dangerous but being off the ball was a straight red. 4 booked from each side in a feisty encounter on a surface that had probably suffered because of the overnight rain.
Apparently Lewes' fans didn't rate us. Well, maybe not but that was a comfortable win in the end and deservedly so. And that therefore says little for their own team.

Its funny how the DP attracts supporters who seem more interested in winding up everyone apart from getting behind their team. I don't know what Lewes fans are saying but in truth we were never troubled by a side that looks well suited to Ryman football. I don't think they tested our dodgy keeper all afternoon and SD was a class above at the back soaking up everything well before any real trouble had emerged. Job done money in the bank and name safely in the hat. The ref wasn't really up to the task in hand, Kane and Stuart both appeared to me to get hands or elbows in the face.
It was a comfortable win with the score line flattering Lewes and giving them some hope up to the final whistle which in truth I don't think their front line would have scored if we were still out there now.
Lets hope for a home draw on Monday.
MOTM SD for me with RIVS not far behind.

Been on their forum and to be fair most of them accept they were second best today. They are not happy with Skip though and seem to take everything that the Eastbourne fan said as gospel. Yeah, we're physical but we have strong players and we keep it legal for most of the time. In the first half they had players booked for what were blatant fouls - their skipper did three and got booked for one. If that is going down too easy then it would appear a lack of knowledge of the laws of the game extends a bit further down the A27. As I said Olurunda, who also got away with a bad foul on skip in the second half too, should have gone for his arm into Binnsy's face but no mention of that.

Nearly 1200 in for the match so both clubs will have made a decent bit of wedge out of the day. I was surprised that those not lumbered with the car keys were able to drink throughout the game on the terraces. That must have jumped up the old bar take a few notches.

Strange..........outside the tea bar I saw a sign that said "No alcohol to be taken outside the bar for this match", and a female steward at half time trying to enforce this, but obviously she gave up then !

As we were queuing up one of the stewards was saying no alcohol outside the bar today lads. Obviously it's the norm at the dp and they were making a half arsed effort to clamp down as it was an fa cup game. I probably noticed more out of envy but does seem odd that what is a clear cut fa rule can be flouted so brazenly at one of the biggest ties of the round and I don't mean one or two sneaking a cheeky one behind their backs. Jammy gits.

Six years ago this weekend, at the same stage of the FA Cup, a relegation-bound Sutton lost 1-0 to a cocky, upwardly-mobile Lewes side featuring Tom Davis, Dale Binns and Paul Booth in their line-up. Their subsequent crash and burn has taught them some respect, but it seems they've still got a bit to learn.
Today's game illustrated the gap between Conference South and Ryman Premier. We may only have won 1-0, but surely no neutral would deny that we were much the more accomplished side. The goal came when their player's slack control on the edge of the area was exploited by Dundas whose shot was parried straight to Slabber. We should have won more convincingly, but in the Cup any win is enough.
I rarely comment on referees, but I thought that Mr Stuart Butler was out of his depth in this game. He did OK in the first half but missed too much in the second.
