It does seem unlikely that there would be football fans still in town 27 hours after the game.

It does seem unlikely that there would be football fans still in town 27 hours after the game. We have no history of anything like this, as you say its over a day after the match and it is unlikely given the shortish distance only @30mins from East Croydon that anyone would have stayed that long? Lewes as a town is quite capable of home growing their thugs, they don't need any outside influence?

Even the hardcore drinkers amongst us were back on Saturday (although one may have lost his shoes according to the fine blog on gandermonium).
This article sounds disgraceful.

Don't understand why any Sutton fans would still be in Lewes on a Sunday evening. Certainly none of the regulars. Love to know why the police think they were from Sutton. Hope they have hard evidence otherwise that is an awful allegation.

From the description it's clear the assailant wasn't wearing a Sutton shirt! Perhaps the Sussex plod can't bring themselves to believe that a "mindless, violent act" was committed by someone from genteel Lewes and so assumed that a visitor from the violent metropolis was responsible.

Latest from Sussex Police is that it now happened on Saturday night. Not sure what kind of investigation is going on if they cant even get the date right.

There's not a single shred of evidence that points to these being Sutton fans other than wishful thinking on the part of the Old Bill unless they can tell us otherwise. No question a big game in a small town will attract feelancers and neutrals unknown to either club. Exactly the same will apply in Hemel where their regulars are already warning us that they are likely to be a magnet for morons saturday week and we rightly expect the clubs to be prepared for that possibility. If the Lewes police can't make their serious allegation against this club as a whole stick then effectively we are all collectively being fitted up here. Disgraceful

Lewes are full of inbre...questionable people. Unless they class a neutral spectator as an away fan?

Probably one of the same morons that queued up to threaten Jamie Taylor at the end of the game.
Or it was Corinthian Casuals again.

Rambo. I think it was both Jamie's. I have no idea what their beef was with Jamie t but he certainly copped some and skip of course dealt with it all in the kind of suave and diplomatic fashion we would expect. I wish I'd thought to film it to be honest.
