Is this the Woodford that we played in the FA Cup a few years back - think we even drew at the lane against them.. Indeed, a 1-1 draw at GGL in 07/08 after Nicky Greene scored after 27 seconds. For the replay only 15 Sutton fans were crazy brave enough to attend. Terrible games, dark days for SUFC . Nice club however, it's good to see that they've finally won a game.

The Woodford 15 has been referred to before, but I don't think I was ever included in the count. Probably because I spent most of the first half driving round county lanes in the pooring rain trying to find the place. Can we now say that we were 16? After the match one of our fans was overheard on the phone saying it was the worst Sutton team he'd ever seen. And I don't think he was wrong.

It was a pretty shocking side. Watkins was left on the bench due to a disagreement with Hazel, but was pretty much our best player in that side. Hazel lasted one more game before stepping down. When you look at the side that night, it was hardly screaming quality..
1Gareth Williams 2Asher Hudson 3Alan Bray 4John Scarborough 5 Lewis Gonsalves 6 Bashiru Alimi 7 Malik Buari 8 Paul Honey 9 Warren McBean 10Solomon Taiwo 11Nicky Greene Subs
Liam Pestle Craig Watkins Ross White Zak Graham Phil Wilson
At their peak, I would say only 2 or 3 of them would have had a look in with the current side, and certainly some of those players wouldn't be good enough to be in our reserve side.
Actually thinking about it, one major fault as Hazel as a manager was his network wasn't huge and wasn't able to bring in the right sort of players - compare the players he brought in to some of the big names that Dos has brought in, and putting budget aside, it's still a chasm,

How Solomon Taiwo ended playing in the Championship both confuses and bemuses me. We've come along way since the 07/08 nightmare, even if we are at the same level. Still as painful as it was that season had one positive. It opened the door for Dos to come in as manager, the best thing to have happened to the club since I've been going, and the shot in the arm that stopped the rot. We're still the only team to have returned to the Conference South after having been relegated to the Isthmian Premier.
Funnily enough the only season in the last 10 years where I lived near to GGL was 07/08.

Mine too. I seem to recall that Taiwo had quite a good game, compared to the others. Three players in the side from the youths - I wonder if that will happen again (outside of SSC games).

What happened to Paul Honey he was my favourite player that season Not kept on by Dos at the end of that season (he only kept on Bray and Dundo). Ended up at Carshalton and Corinthian Casuals. He was at our game there a couple years ago but didn't play because he was injured. He did mention that he was thinking of retiring that season, and I presume he did. Cracking little player though, can see why he was a fans' favourite. But even that season knocked the stuffing out of him.

I went to Woodford using public transport. East Croydon to London and then out again to Banbury where I had to get a little hopper type bus that weaved a pattern through the villages of the Oxfordshire/Northamptonshire border before arriving in Woodford 30 mins or so later (or it may have been longer). Probably the oddest route I've taken for a domestic match. Craig W scored both goals: one was a cracker. But we had some scary moments at 1-0.
As for PH, I believe he is playing with his mates on a Sunday now.
