Sutton United boss has no complaints over Nelson's red show
Sutton United boss Paul Doswell had no complaints with the referee after Mitchell Nelson saw red against Eastleigh. Instead, he praised the spirit of the players left on the pitch as they fought back for a 1-1 at Gander Green Lane. The visitors had started the day on top of the Skrill South, and they would have felt confident of taking all three points home when, after being reduced to 10 men, United conceded a soft opener. However, a Craig Dundas penalty levelled the affair after the break, and in a tough second half, it was United substitute James Folkes who had the best chance to win it in the final moments. Doswell said: “It was not just the way we got the result, it was the way we played that really pleased me. “We did not compromise after the sending off, we kept two up front, we kept our wide men, and I thought it was one of the best performances I have seen in terms of keeping the ball for a while. “You would not have known it was 10 v 11. At the end we had a fantastic chance to win it and that would have capped off a memorable day.” Nelson’s straight red card came on 21 minutes after a rash challenge on Stuart Fleetwood – but Doswell has no complaints with referee Martin Dexter. “When I saw it live, I thought it was a sending off, and when I watched it again on the tape, you could see it was one-footed not two, but he did catch his standing leg, and I cannot say he did not deserve to be sent off,” he said. “It is unfortunate for Mitchell, because from a poor start in pre-season and in the first couple of games, he has been brilliant for the past six or so games. It is a little blot on his copy-book.” He added: “But all the players dug in for him, that is something we have instilled in the players this year, we have a brilliant team spirit – no-one had a pop at Mitchell at the end, and I think the lads dug him out of a hole.” Nelson is likely to be suspended for three matches, starting from November 16 - which would tule him out of the FA Trophy visit of Havant & Waterlooville. www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/sport/10786705.Sutton_United_boss_has_no_complaints_over_Nelson_s_red_show/
