Great result. Hopefully Dover can win tomorrow and if we win on Sat then we should be 2nd.
Haven't decided whether I will go on Sat as I'm a bit of a jinx. The only game I've seen us win this season is the FA Cup replay v Hemel!!

Really good solid performance tonight. Rode our luck a bit early on but battled hard took our chances and came away worthy winners. I think the key for us tonight was sheer bloody hard work and that's helped get us right back in track.

Have to say that after the first 15 mins, Wood could have been well in control having struck the woodwork twice and caused numerous other problems. U's managed to whether that storm but the pace of their no 7 was a constant threat and when Mitch brought him down after losing the ball, I feared the worst as he did look to have a clear run on goal from the edge of the box. A yellow after the inept ref consulted with his assistant.
U's had begun to threaten and Mitch headed against a post before Fuseini found Mitch, now patrolling the right flank who cut in and fed Scanners run who finished superbly.
1-0 at ht, U's were awarded an early penalty in the second half. Yes, it was a foul but for a high boot (dangerous play) and to me that is an indirect free-kick not a pen. Dundo thumped home. U's were in total control now and playing with the confidence and fluency that brought a 13 match unbeaten run earlier in the season. Binnsy was a real handful and it was his run and shot that allowed Slabs a typical centre-forwards goal after the excellent Russell had saved Binnsy's original effort.
Tom made one brilliant save from a well struck free kick. Wood's consolation was a fantastic strike into the top corner by Montgomery.
U's picked up 4 cautions two for delaying the re-start yet, the home side were allowed to get away with some meaty fouls before they finally received a yellow card. Wood will say that was small beer as they may have some justification in stating that the two big calls went U's way. Still, we've had to put up with some crap decisions in both boxes this season and it was about time we had some fortune.
Wood looked a lively, physical side but the second goal killed them and as with teams towards the bottom of the table, when you're lucks out it's out. Very poor refereeing tonight and not for the first time from this ref this season. Whitehawk in the FA Cup.
Another welcome 3 points in a highly entertainingmatch that at times was played at a frenetic pace. Clough was excellent again tonight and Scanners probably had his best match in a U's shirt. Binnsy was very lively and Slabs run his socks off at front. MOM for me though was Dundo. He was everywhere tonight, defence, midfield, attack. Brilliant.

We certainly rode our luck in the first 15mins we could have been 2 if not 3 down before we got started. The pitch although fantastic was very greasy with the ball skidding around and it seemed to take us time to adjust to the surface? Not sure what the Wood players were moaning about Damian's goal, it was onside? We got a bit of a break with the penalty just after the HT, right time and Dundo confident as ever dispatched with ease. I thought it was a pen but again the Wood players were complaining maybe with some justification as Slabs looked offside when the ball was played through but as often the lino wasn't up with play. Dale worked his socks off and i do wish he would stand a few of those crosses up for slabs. His low shot very nearly opened his account for us but with the keeper just getting his hand to it leaving slabs to score from a yard out. 3-0 job done, some niggly fouls which as said should have bought cards for a frustrated Wood team but may have just rubbed salt in their wounds. Their consolation was a pile driver which came from a defensive error due to a bit of sloppyness denying us a clean sheet. 3rd in the table now, dug in well for tonight's win but we do need to look at our defence which has shipped 4 goals in 3 games against the bottom 3 sides. Damian MOTM for me, and I am in the photo with slabs for the 3rd

The only foul I saw for the pen was the centre back trying to kick the ball as Slabs was trying to head it. Dangerous play, indirect free kick. This is one of those situations where you would really like to hear the ref explain what he had given.

Was there contact ?
FIFA Interpretation:- Playing in a dangerous manner is defined as any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player himself). It is committed with an opponent nearby and prevents the opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury. A scissors or bicycle kick is permissible provided that, in the opinion of the referee, it is not dangerous to an opponent. Playing in a dangerous manner involves no physical contact between the players. If there is physical contact, the action becomes an offence punishable with a direct free kick or penalty kick.

Stay away !!!!! Catch a cheap flight to Oz and offer some batting coaching sessions The last time I went to Oz to see England play we lost 5 nil so my coaching skills won't be of any help! Gee if we don't win on Sat then I think I may stay away for the rest of the season!!
