I think we've all accepted Bromley must be the real deal after their win at Ebbsfleet, but I imagine almost all of us have only seen them when they played at ours with what I gather was a weakened squad. Can anyone shed any light onto why they are doing so well and what they got right that we didnt? I second the opinion that, as much as it pains me to say it, I would rather see them win the league than the likes of Ebbsfleet and Eastleigh (especially the latter - another Grays/Weymouth et al in the making for sure) although a lot of other teams' supporters and managers seem to be unfairly throwing us into the 'moneybags' category as well!

A mate of mine is a Bromley supporter. He can't believe they're doing so well and keeps on expecting the bubble to burst. However he says they have a fantastic team and Bradley Goldberg has been exceptional. They've acquired a couple of players from Dagenham (I think) who have also been very good. The league is between them and Eastleigh. Hopefully we can make the play offs and who knows what will happen.

After the initial few years of boom/bust clubs getting promoted (Histon, Lewes, Weymouth, Grays, St Albans etc) we've had a few sides recently who have gone up on merit - namely Hayes and Yeading and Welling - not the biggest clubs but got and kept together a good side. I don't think any football supporter could have begrudged their progress, and shows that even with a modest budget you can have success with the right blend of people at the club. Goldberg senior isn't a bad guy who obviously loves football at this level too. Mind you if Eastleigh go up, then their backers will go for a new stadium at a new location, and get hold of the prime real estate that is where their current ground is, make a fortune and take it with them, leaving the beast with a ground they can't sustain and expect them to go bust not long after. Do we REALLY not want Eastleigh to go up now?

Oddly enough I was told in pre season that Bromley would be up there .Not sure what kind of budget they have but was told recently that Goldberg was trying to reduce it & sell the club. The gap is now too wide for us to close but we should aim for 2nd place to get home advantage in any play off final assuming we can get there, and i fully expect us to.

Is that the same H&Y who appear to be financially crippled and have gone from 2 workable non league grounds to struggling to have one?

Is that the same H&Y who appear to be financially crippled and have gone from 2 workable non league grounds to struggling to have one? Yup THAT H&Y - Two non-league clubs who merged together to pool their resources, rather than have some idiot pumping money into them. Their troubles came with the delay of a new ground (after they sold one of their grounds to finance it) and going professional after getting promoted. Certainly before they were promoted they were not a boom or bust.

Surely they were just bumping along in the Isthmian until they got £600,000 sell-on fee from Les Ferdinand's transfer from QPR to Newcastle.. Sounds pretty boom to me!

No Tony, that was Hayes in 1995/6, which probably paid for them for 5 years in the Conference till 2002. If that 600k "bought" them promotion in 2009, 2 years after a merger then I'd be pretty impressed, as would most chairmen in the league for making that money last 14 years!

Bromley have done very well this season they have used contacts very wisely, they have re-signed Ryan Hall after he was released by Leeds for being a naughty boy he is playing for Free.

Maybe Eastbourne would be a better example!

Maybe Eastbourne would be a better example! Actually forgot about them! Possibly because they went up in the 2007/8 season, and like many of us, we've done what we can to forget that season ever existed!
