Right, one for the more statto minded of us.
How many postponed games have we had this season due to
a) Weather b) Cup involvement involving either side c) Other
a) Boreham Wood (H), Gosport (H), Bromley (a), Gosport (a) (at least twice), H&Y (a) Twice, Dover (a) b) Boreham Wood (a), Havant (H), Bath (a), Weston (a), Dover (a) c) ?
Can anyone fill in the gaps? 8 games lost to the weather already (with almost all of them happening in January/Feb

You can add a) Weston H b) Gosport A three times (them because of County Cup then FAT replay, us due to FAC replay v Hemel) c) Gosport A (put back one day to avoid clashing with England v Poland, then rained off ) Only one postponement before the New Year was down to the weather. But since 1 Jan we've had seven games called off because of waterlogged pitches. We've only played three matches in 2014, all away. Our last home game was on Boxing Day, which is not good for the club's cashflow. If the Weston game this Saturday gets pulled we'll go two months of the season without a match at GGL. Crazy! But there are other clubs with bigger backlogs than us. H&W are playing tonight but even after that will have played fewer than half their 13/14 league fixtures. And they have the small matter of a Trophy semi-final v Gosport (also with a big backlog) occupying the next two Saturdays - weather permitting! Our exit from all the Cups before Christmas now looks like a blessing in disguise. As things stand we've got 18 games to play in just over 10 weeks, so we're not quite yet in three-games-a-week territory.

Looks almost certain we'll be adding Weston twice at home to that list looking at the weather outside right now !

Going back to that famous season 2000/01 where we didn't complete the season, Hendon only played 40/42 games, whilst Harrow, Billericay, Aldershot and ourselves played 41.
The real odd one from that season was Canvey Island. Challenging for the title, they needed to play all their games. 9 days before the end of the season, they had only played 34 out of 42 games. In that 9 days, they played 8 games, (Fri - following Saturday) with only Monday off. They ended up finishing 10 points behind eventual champions Farnborough, in 2nd place.

Out of interest, did you notice the attendance at Dover last night? I have a lot of time for Dover but considering the chairmans anti-3G approach a crowd of 356 is pretty low (compared to what they are used to)....and this was for a scheduled game, not a rearranged game.....and not a lot of competition from Champs League games on the box

They were playing Maidenhead, a notoriously low supported side away, in a rearranged (yes it was a rearranged game from earlier in the season) in not very warm conditions. When they played Eastleigh before Xmas, who are vying for the title in a rearranged midweek league game, that wasn't much over 450. Don't get where the 3G argument comes in on this one? Plenty of sides in this division have had worse crowds, and overall they've been dropping.

I wouldn't expect any decent crowds in this weather, to be honest.

With the inevitable postponement of tomorrow's match, I've had a look back through the records and an unwelcome piece of history will be made as a result. With our next home match not scheduled until March 1st, it will be the latest date that U's will have played their first home match of the year. The previous was in 1963 when after playing a friendly on 8th December '62, U's next home match was on 16th February '63.
The gap between home matches in 1963 was 67 days. Should we actually play on 1st March, that will be a gap of 64 days. The most recent gap to get close was in 1986, 49 days.
I looked up a long range weather forecast website earlier and if it is to believed (these things are never that accurate), March and April remain very wet if not as wet as it is currently. I'm really not sure that this season is going to finish unless extension to the season into May is allowed. The Ryman has already announced that is not possible for them. They may have to seriously re-think that policy.

Sorry, fair point, it was a little harsh and I should not have allowed my current feelings towards Dover infiltrate your forum.
