Hi
I'm writing a book about Roy Hodgson and wonder if anyone can help.
I've got about three years of football unaccounted for in Roy Hodgson's youth, probably seasons:
1966-67, 1967-68 and 1968-69.
In 69-70 he was playing for Tonbridge Angels. In 1965-66 he was in the Dulwich Hamlet reserves.
It's nowhere on the internet but I've heard that he might have joined Tonbridge from Sutton.
Does anyone remember if this is the case? I'd guess he didn't play much or people would know (I think Sutton were doing quite well back then, right?) but it'd be interesting to know if he was around the club and when.
Bests Richard

I don't think he was with us at all but he may well have played for Carshalton Ath?

Thanks - you're right, he came back to Carshalton in 1975, joining up with Lennie Lawrence.

It's well known that Roy H played up the road for Robins. It is interesting to note he turned out for Dulwich's reserves in 65/66 because, U's had a R Hodgson who made 6 appearances for the ressies the following season. He made most of them as a left winger and his prime position in Carshalton's team a few years later was at left back. He also made one first team appearance as a sub for the injured Ted Powell. So, was Fulham's most successful manager (arguably?) since Alec Stock a former Sutton player? Could be.
One thing I do know was that along with Steve Bangs he gave one coaching session to a group of Sutton Wanderers boys in the mid-70's in the grounds of a Roehampton Hotel. I was one of those boys.

Two hour session was probably not enough. Actually, I was quite good as a kid but never grew and then discovered booze and fags. I got selected for the League Rep team v The Champions when I was 13/14. Not bad considering I played for the bottom placed team.
