Finished 2-0, with great goals very early and late in the game bookending an otherwise forgettable contest. Gav McCallum lashed in his first since returning to Sutton while Dundo's 90th minute screamer is a goal-of-the-season contender. In between we made heavy weather of things, conceding a lot of possession to Chelmsford, who defended well but were unable to convert their chances.
That's our second 'double' of the season and brings us two-thirds of the way through our league fixtures. The 'business end' of the season starts at Bromley on Tuesday!

Anyone arriving late and leaving early today would have been gutted. Scored first minute. Not a a lot happened for another 88 and then dundo scored what may have been an even better goal than the one that was scandalously ruled out at dover last season. Up till then we were winning ugly in modern parlance but finished on one almighty high. Great three points, good crowd and off to bromley in good heart.

Chelmsford arguably enjoyed a lot of the play today but for all that only tested JB twice with shots on target. Credit to U's defence for that as much of the lack of potency in the City forward line, with bodies blocking, last ditch challenges and the City finishing not up to scratch.
U's looked a bit leggy, lacking some energy and were outplayed in the first half, even though they registered the two efforts on target of the first 45 mins. The first ended up in the net thanks to Gav McCallum's excellent strike from JT's lovely lay off to provide the perfect start for U's within the first minute.
After that City enjoyed much possession but U's looked dangerous when they went forward too.
The second half saw U's enjoy better spells but had to survive some scares while not being far away from extending their lead then as the match edged into added time up stepped Dundo, on as a second half sub.
God knows how far out he was but to hit a ball that hard from that distance with that accuracy (top left hand corner) was absolutely stunning. A sight to behold. One of the finest strikes of a ball I've seen from a Sutton player in the 40 odd years I've been watching. Best compliment I can give in terms of Sutton is to liken it to one of Paul McKinnon's block busters. Some people may think I'm overstating it but I'll stand my ground on this one. Fabulous.
I believe Cloughy got MOM and he was once again commanding with Louis John looking far more mature than his age. Also thought Binnsy was up and down that left flank when the opportunity arose and Kane Haysman was lively when he came on. It was a tough shift today but the lads got through it.
The pitch was heavier than the grassy nature of it looked, especially down the flanks but again played ok and is in far better condition than some in the CS.
Ref missed quite a bit today for both sides and U's had more than strong claims for a pen when JT was felled in the box by a defender who got nowhere near the ball.
Three points to keep above Ebbsfleet. The lads will have to be better on Tuesday one would expect but winning while not on top form ain't a bad thing and U's did just that today.

Well, what a strange game! If anything the worst thing we could have done was to score so early on, as the wheels fell off. Chelmsford will probably be disappointed not to have got something from the game but the strike from Dundo - bloody hell!! In a game where we were below par for 88 minutes, it has to be said, Binnsy had an absolute stormer. Can't get to Bromley on Tuesday, but looking forward to being at Farnborough next Saturday.

From the Chelmo board:
"The first goal we were asleep and their second in injury time was goal of the season. It was an absolute screamer from 35 yards. No blame to anyone. It was stunning and worth the entry fee alone to see it."
Can't say much more than that; a bit harsh on Gav though.

We certainly started quickly a ball over the top not dealt with by the Clarets defence allowed both JT and Gav to get ahead of them and as said a lovely layoff back from JT left Gav in a great position to smash the ball home. We then looked to get very deep against a Chelmo eager to make amends for the early deficit. Although they enjoyed a lot of the ball defensively we looked strong with Cloughie winning everything again and when the away side did get a sniff at goal they never really looked capable of putting the ball in the net. U's starting without Dundo and missing the injured Weston looked lightweight in midfield, but did still look dangerous on the break. I think their keeper has got away with one on the stroke of half time as he appeared to bring JT down on the touchline?
Second half we were definitely better with the addition of Dundo giving us some midfield presence, but again Chelmo enjoyed a lot of possession and lacking any sort of finesse in front of goal. As the half wore on U's looked the more dangerous of the 2 sides. With 88mins on the clock and U's pressing and after some last ditch Clarets defending the chance appeared to have gone when the ball found its way to Dundo inside the center circle. What we saw next will go down as one of them goals which will go down in folk law as Dundo hit a unstoppable drive from fully 35yrds which the keeper saw all the way but never had a hope of stopping it.
Not a classic match by any stretch of the imagination, not a top drawer U's performance but a message for Clarets fans who think they should have got something out of the game:
'ITS NOT HAVING THE BALL BUT WHAT YOU DO WITH IT THAT COUNTS'

I don't think our midfield did well enough in the first half but after we made subs in the second we improved.Missing Weston already & with Wynter going back the squad is looking a little light.

The positives we can take:
1. 2 good goals. Dundas' was an unreal effort (would have added a couple of mill to a Premier League player's price tag). 2. We won and kept a clean sheet when playing at our absolute worst. 3. Half decent crowd (hope they weren't put off by what was on offer!) 4. Kane.
Chelmsford on the balance of play deserved something from the game but their finishing was awful. At the end of the day I guess that is where games are won and lost. Whilst the pitch was heavy and hard going I'd say the first half in particular lacked basic work rate, getting close to them and putting ourselves about (can't think I have said that often about a Dos team). I'd question whether the middle 2 in the midfield can play in there as a 2 again(especially against a 3), well off it - of the midfield it was Damian Scannell showing the work rate and putting the foot in which you'd say isn't exactly his game. I hope we were saving Dundas for Bromley and he wasn't carrying anything. Not often you go away from a 2 nil victory a little disappointed but I think we should be a whole lot better than that. Even Clough, who in my opinion is the best defender in this division and got MOM, was muscled out of it in silly situations a couple of times and a little casual (though it must be said was awesome dealing with anything crossed into the middle). I lost count of the number of times a throw on got in behind us!! Anyway, 3 pts in the bank and on we go.

My first game since Tonbridge (had to have a break from watching the U's after Dorchester/Tonbridge performances!)so plenty of new faces. Enjoyable old-fashioned game, helped by the old-school ref whose performance won't have pleased the purists, but certainly pleased me (I particularly enjoyed him belittling players when they fell over looking for free-kicks that most soft modern refs give).
Whilst we lack the crisp high tempo game that was so pleasing on the eye earlier in the season we look a lot harder to break down, especially now we employ a proper holding midfielder. Obviously not the best spectacle ever but two great goals and plenty of chances for both sides. Although Chelms enjoyed lots of attacking possession I felt we had the better chances and were decent value for the win. Bromley dropping points again, with us Eastleigh and Ebbs in fine form they must be worried. I feel we have to win on Tue if a title challenge is realistic for us, but I am starting to feel one of the three chasing sides will overhaul them as the season approaches its business end.

what a great win for my boys but I don't think we deserved the win because our kit manager wasn't on form as he usually is but it doesn't matter when you consider the way we have been serving our chips, if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be 3rd place in the best league in the world. I would like to thank all our supporters who are buying these chips. also I think the supporters have been fantastic this season (not)with there support, my mate jonnie who is obsessive with the clubs chips and thinks the way they use the right amount of salt is fantastic. I hate all the media attention on the manager about the secret for his chips making skill and the pressure is getting to him and I fear he might stop eating the chips once and for all. once our kit manager comes back from injury as he got injured by picking up to many kits at once and he will really boost our moral up like in FIFA . According to sky sports we have information that Sutton united might be investing in decent burgers, this is the really piece in the jigsaw puzzle as we have always needed decent burgers in the club as its what we are lacking and this will with us the liga BBVA. that's all folks.
