A club that would sell their soul for a little bit of money and success. They are just as bad as MK Dons.
They are just a franchise. They changed their name to cash in, they have sold the club to a gimmick to cash in.
I feel sorry for the genuine fans.

The city there will be known as Ebbsfleet (or maybe Ebbsfleet Valley) so by changing their name all they did was bow to the inevitable and get in first before some other club came along and used the name. There will be thousands of millions invested here, why shouldn't the club do what it can to get a share ? Names can change, should Man U still be known as Newton Heath ?
But as for this other idea, I agree, just plain daft !

But I don't think Manchester United changed their name to chase investment?
It's a sad state when clubs do these things just to gain more money.
I can't see G&N ever being in a higher league than what they are in now. All those who move to Ebbsfleet when the new city is built will already support teams from else where. Plus I bet Charlton and Gillingham start recruiting supporters there once it's built so I can't see G&N benefitting too much by it.
You just have to look at Milton Keynes and the little interest the locals have shown to the various teams they have had. I doubt Ebbsfleet will be much different.

And a cheap ticket offer to make their white elephant stadium look full for the TV cameras. As for Ebbsfleet/myfootballclub.co.uk, i think it's beyond daft. The whole concept of myfootballclub.co.uk is silly, letting a bunch of Internet nerds who've played a bit to many games of Championship manager (me, generalise? Never! ) pick and choose a team is quite unworkable, and it's turned the club formally known as Gravesend & Northfleet even more into a freakish sideshow. Add to that many of the members of myfootballclub.co.uk probably aren't supporters of Ebbsfleet means that the 'owners' will have conflicting interests.

Supporters Direct issued this (short) statement about today's news
Supporters Direct today issued the following statement about the imminent takeover of Ebbsfleet United Football Club by website consortium, 'Myfootballclub.co.uk':
Spokesperson Kevin Rye, said: "Fundamentally, playing fantasy manager is not about responsible democratic supporter representation or community ownership, which are the core values of the trust movement.
"Indeed we are one of the most vigorous exponents of reform of the ownership structures in football, but our interests are in long term sustainability and governance of clubs.
"This might be seen as a one off gimmick, harmless enough by many, however this is a real football club, these are real finances, and real fans. The question needs to be asked what happens to the club finances and its supporters if the novelty starts to wear off?"

We could always try a similar approach to Ebbsfleet and let people on here vote for the team. Would be interested to see who rob, ringstead, winklepicker and others would vote for . We should also be allowed to vote for who we want to referee and then delegate this task to markf.
