Well done to all involved in making today a success. I'm pretty sure that's the biggest league attendance in the 20 years I've been watching the U's. And it's great to see the enjoyment a lot of the first-timers/occasional visitors took from today's match, and it'll encourage to come for the rest of the season and beyond (well that's how I was hooked).
As for the game, a professional job. We were bright and creative from the start, and scored some beautifully crafted goals. Scannel's goal, especially the play that allowed the chance to be created, was poetry in motion. The 2nd half was a bit more niggly, and the officials perhaps didn't cover themselves in glory but we kept creating, and it was fantastic work by MOTM (and 2 goal hero) McCallum to create an opening for Sinclair to give the result the gloss it deserved. A fantastic day out

Firstly how good it was to see over 2000 in the ground for a league match, and massive credit to all those who worked so tirelessly to make the day such a success. The result never really seemed in doubt after the impeccable Scans opened the scoring, our movement for all 3 goals was something to behold, you don't get better in the premiership. I thought Jason's kicking was good prior to today but although he had little to do he played a part in at least one goal with accurate kicking and has the ability to be ahead of the game so he knows where its going before he even receives it. The goal of the season competition is going to be a tough one this season, even these tap ins involve so much build up play it likes watching Arsenal at times I can't see why the defender wasn't sent off for his challenge on the edge of the box, certainly the ref showed a lot of leniency to the guy which is fine, but its a shame he didn't do the same on the Binnzy sending off? The best thing I can say about the new lad Spillane (AKA Micky?) is that he slotted in as if he had been playing there all season. MOTM, can't argue with the majestic Gav, but Scans is simply class and runs him close. We haven't conceded a goal at GGL since before Xmas, and Jason has never picked one out of the net at the Lane, well not one that was given. Onwards upwards and isn't there a tougher league we can play in, its like taking candy from a baby

I thought we were excellent going forwards in the first half. Very sharp in that final third, direct, inventive and all about end product. First goal was wonderful. I like the new guy - composed and reads the game well, occasionally perhaps a little over confident but maybe that was the game situation. Shame about the sending off as I think we would have gone on to give the bumper crowd a real treat. Silly bookings.
Perhaps we got a good time to play Basingstoke as they have a few injuries but every team has those kind of matches and you just need to rejiggle and find a way of competing. They were very poor and perhaps the worst away opposition performance we have seen this season.
Off the field amazing success. Well done all for the hard work to make it happen. Let's hope we have picked up a few more regulars. At last the weather was on our side too.

Often when there's a result like that people say the oppo were poor. I prefer to say that we were very good and stopped them from playing so credit should be given to our players for the performance they put in. The first goal was worth the entrance money alone (and yes I did pay. Gav, Scans and JT were excellent but to be fair so were the rest of the team. I think Spillane is an excellent addition.
Well done to everyone that worked so tirelessly to get that number of people through the gate. Amazing effort.
It's a shame for me that I'm away for the next 2 games. I expect 6 points!

I must admit my first thought was we are playing a poor side and we should be beating them convincingly. Jr you are correct, the team did play very well and the goals were well well crafted. That alone should please PD and his team. As OS has mentioned we have yet to concede a goal at home this year, strong defence and a talented forward line, you can't ask for much more. Many thanks to all involved in putting the event on, your are all brilliant fans.

OS said "I can't see why the defender wasn't sent off for his challenge on the edge of the box"
As I said to you after, the ball was heading for the corner flag and therefore not an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Yellow card correct. As for Binnsy's that was a ref playing to his assessor or if not being assessed a poor decision, one of many in the second half.

I wasn't at the game, but the club's bold decision to allow spectators in for free seems to have been handsomely vindicated. We were lucky with the weather, and the players put on a good show, but I don't think many of us were expecting an attendance of over 2,000 (bigger than all but two of the day's Conference Premier gates).
I'm sure some of the extra people will have liked what they saw, noted where the win has taken Sutton in the table, and will be back to see if the team can climb even higher than third.

I think their guy was very lucky to escape with a yellow but the ref must have made the judgement that our man was not going to get to the ball. I thought he was leaving just the keeper to beat. To me Binns' sending off was right. First one he delayed a free kick, didn't throw it far but it was a deliberate action that allowed us to regroup. You might go without punishment 8 in 10 but too many players get away with that IMO. 2nd one he was away down the right and again seemed a fairly cynical check to make sure their player didn't get through. Wasn't required with the scoreline as it was but sometimes natural instincts take over!

I know Mark, but having seen the incidents on video and think their guy should have seen red, as for Binnsie, he did get away with a earlier foul which is what I think the ref is telling him when he books him. But in the interests of the game and as I saw last night at Spurs with Sagna a talking too before a second booking is the norm?

Well done to you guys for what was clearly a very impressive marketing campaign, shows exactly how it can be done. I hope a large number of those 2,000 return for the next match, great stuff.

This is how a neutral viewed our match: Conf South Sutton United 4 Basingstoke Town 0 My intended weekend in Scotland didn't come to fruition and we ended up visiting family in Croydon so I thought it would be rude not to take Sutton United up on their offer of free entry and more than 2,000 others did likewise, I dragged my brother in law along (he doesn't do non league) and he was most impressed at the quality of football although I did have to point out that it isn't always as good as that. I saw Sutton win and Bromley recently in what was a cracking game and the first 45mins here were undoubtable the best I've seen all season, the opening goals on 5mins certainly wouldn't have looked out of place on MOTD. A 3-0 half time lead certainly didn't flatter Sutton and whilst the second half wasn't quite as good, but it certainly wasn't bad, and they had no problem controlling the game even after the dismissal of Dale Binns around the hour mark for a second yellow and a fourth goal just emphasised the difference between the two sides, Basingstoke battled gamely but rarely looked like scoring, the game was played in a good spirit and very well refereeed. With Bromley continuing to implode Sutton must now be considered to be in the title race and at worst look a very good bet for the play offs. Well done to all concerned for a nice day. www.nonleaguematters.co.uk/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=572953;page=4;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;

Let's hope that more neutrals are as impressed as this.
On my way out of the ground on Saturday, I overheard a conversation between a couple of people and one of them said "I never thought the standard of football was going to be this good". I did say that they need to come back to prove to themselves it was not a one-off and hopefully they will return.
