I'm interested in feedback on the design of last night's programme. It was the same design we'd looked at for the initial Gosport fixture before postponements and stuck with it. What did you think?

Lyall, it was only 16 pages. Is the idea to cut down and charge just £2 or to retain the bigger version at £2.50? If the former, there won't be much room for original articles. Good to see the colour pic on the front and the team line up design gave more clarity.

Hi Lyall,I've had a quick look and compared it to the 'normal' programme and whilst I always thought the 'old style' carried too many adverts, I personally don't like the idea of 'dropping' ( if that's going to be the "way forward" ) the following.................The Ground Regulations, The Who's who ( there are still people without internet access who like to know who they need to contact if they have problems ) and for us 'older' supporters, the Fixtures, Results and Line up section. Apart from that, like Frakey I like the coloured front page

Lyall, was this a cost cutting exercise? Just under half is given over to adverts, so really at two pounds I feel the example is over priced. No fixture list, just squeezed in the league table, supporters club news? None of Paul's wonderful photos, apart from the cover, and a tiny one of our new signing.
When I first saw the edition on Tuesday I thought well done, a lot better then the normal re-arranged game A4 piece of paper, now I know it was an experiment. If we gain promotion, we need to improve our product, not regress, sorry what's next, a Farnborough type two pound rip off.
Maybe a rethink is required, so the supporters need to have input. I appreciate your great efforts, I wouldn't want the job, but perhaps input from supporters/management on design and contents.

Found these reports: www.nonleaguematters.co.uk/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=573662;page=2;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;Sutton Utd 2 v 0 Gosport Borough Conference South Att 433 Admission £10 Prog £2 (Dreadful 16 pager) Tea £1 Small nearly as bad as Prog. First visit to Sutton this season where admission is pegged at £10 for rest of season, they had in excess of 2000 on Saturday when they had free admission. Not sure if the programme was a normal issue or not but last nights was vastly overpriced with only 16 pages and no Results page. It was a fairly easy win for Sutton with goals either side of half time though they did create a few problems for themselves and Gosport missed a really good chance to score near the end which would have made the last 5 minutes interesting. ***** I was at Sutton too. Routine win for the home side, Gosport's minds possibly on Wembley. Delighted to finally find a southern ground that sells pies and pasties, albeit my pasty was served with a plastic spoon with which to eat it... Agree the prog was a disappointment although interested to read there will be a redevelopment of the ground, including a new pavilion. Hopefully this will include a bar, as the one at the back of the stand was closed. They certainly have more space to play with than most non league clubs. Must mention too the club shop - it's been years since I bothered with these but this was an absolute treasure trove and a real labour of love for the people running it.

For some reason I never got round to getting a programme on Tuesday. I wish I had now as it would be interesting to see the new design and content.
Nice to see the positive message about the club shop.

First, top marks for trying something new and asking for feedback. I thought it had a cleaner. sharper appearance and the colour front was a big plus. Like others, I missed the line-ups & fixtures page. The 50p price drop was welcome but not if it reduces the size of a programme by that many pages.

I agree the programme was not the biggest but they didn't exactly have lots of time to get it out.

Love the fella's comment about the bar. He obviously didn't bother to ask anyone where the open bar was!

To answer a few initial responses... this isn't what the programme will be like, it was playing with ideas. So please do not jump to any conclusions. This was designed as a quick edition, larger than pre-season but not a full programme. Bob, everything is always a cost-cutting exercise but statistically there was more space given to editorial than a regular programme with only 'essential' advertisements included on Tuesday. It wasn't an experiment as such, this was a midweek offering (no disrespect to Gosport) due to the timing and organisation around a full programme for a virtually guaranteed lower crowd - deliberately a fuller edition than an A4 reprint/photocopied teamsheet.
I find it interesting that feedback often falls in to two camps - those who moan everything is available elsewhere (not wholly true) and those who say keep x and y as not everyone has internet access. I know there needs to be a balance. To presume that not everyone has internet access is becoming less and less of a valid argument in this digital age, but we would always try to include key features. Tony's dressing room interview is an example of content exclusive to the programme as are Mark's articles and features by the Aleman.
In terms of asking supporters, I do listen to feedback and respond to their ideas. But I will never, ever be able to please everyone. I know that as soon I appease one fan by including something, another will moan about dropping something else. There is always a finite amount of space and ideally we'd want that to be editorial and not advertising (which would possibly reduce the number of pages and therein the price - hopefully).
In terms of Rambo and Bob's specific features... the ground regs I've ummed and arred over. They are kind of necessary but equally they should be displayed in the ground as much as relying on someone buying a programme before they know they can't bring a drum in. It was dropped on Tuesday for space. The club information and honours is a lot of information so it may be how we display it. The centre spread of fixtures and line-up would be included, again only dropped for space. The league table was given the same space as usual. Paul's photos always get an airing, but as we've been squeezing in content that has been carried over for the postponements they've been a luxury of late unfortunately. The supporters' club notes never really change, and I've been listing key news from them of late. I've had nothing from them since Alison stepped down.
And when we get promoted a full review of what to produce would naturally take place - in the meantime, anyone, at any time, can let me or Tony Dolbear know what they think by talking to us or emailing editor@suttonunited.net
Thanking you.
* these are my tired ramblings and not necessarily those of the club.
