Hard fought match tonight against a lively Boreham Wood side who lacked the cutting edge against a well drilled U's defence that included debutant Ben King at left back. King was given MOM and he performed well considering the step up from Suburban to CS is considerable.
JB made one superb stop to keep out a fierce drive in the first half as U's found a solid Wood defence hard to break down.
Second half was even again before the ref stepped in to award U's what looked a very dubious penalty. Unfortunately Dundo placed his effort wide of the post and this galvanised the Wood team and they looked dangerous at times but failed to test JB.
U's with Binnsy, Gav and JT lively throughout broke the deadlock with about 10 mins left when Micky Spillane finished a good passing move with a splendid low drive into the bottom corner.
Sincs saw a last ditch challenge divert his effort round the corner after the keeper had parried and U's saw out the last 5 mins for a vital win.
Penalty decision aside, I thought the ref did well tonight, keeping his cards in his pockets when both sides probably should have picked up cautions.
Ben Cheklit came on for the last 10 for his debut. Good to see the youngsters getting a go. Great to record another win. Havant will be tough on Thursday too.

Twitter had our squad for tonight as:-
Line up: Brown, John, Binns, Spillane, Downer, Clough, Haysman, Ben King, Dundas, Taylor, McCallum
Subs: Sinclair, Shitta, Ben Cheklit, Sawyer, Lovelock
I am guessing a bit of rotation was in order what with another game on Thursday. No Slabber, Scannell or Spetch.

And so our unbeaten run extends into a fourth month. This was an open game, with probably more scoring opportunities than on Saturday, but only a quarter the number of goals! The pace of Boreham Wood's front men caused us a few problems while our attacking play was too often let down by poor balls into the box. Justice was perhaps done when Dundo missed a dubiously awarded penalty. Then, with time running out, Binnsy cut the ball back for Spillane to score a fine debut goal. We had to endure a nervy final ten minutes but hung on for the win that takes us to just two points behind Bromley.

The win was the important thing it keeps s right up with Easteigh only drawing and the unbeaten run contines.
Our final ball has gone awol since the Stoke game, too many cut out or bad passes made at the critical time, but we have a defence with JB between the sticks that just works its sicks off. Ben King a fine debut, Charlie looks as secure as ever and Binnsy is the best wingback in the division. Wood have looked a better side then their league position suggests in both out meetings.
Never a penalty for me, justice done when Dundo put it wide, but why didn't he smash it like usual? Binnsy the key to the goal and the match, he has the beating of every defender in the league, and found the right pass on about the 5th time of asking.
1 of 3 big games done this week 2 to go and who knows what the table will say 5pm Saturday?

Huge win for us after a wobble. To win the title you really need to be getting results against lower placed sides and getting 1 point out of 6 against a side looking more and more doomed isn't a good return. But as dos says often (and which I agree) seasons are not won or lost on one game. Finally we claw a couple points on Eastleigh meaning that going into April aside from the season which we won the Ryman, we still have a realistic chance of winning the title for the first time under Dos. Were also only 2 points shy of last years total and 6 points from match our highest ever CS points score of 74 2 seasons ago. We would need a disaster to happen to miss the play offs but also need Eastleigh to mess up their bulletproof home form to take the title. The current concern is that after scoring for fun the goals have dried up with 3 goals in the last 4 games, two of which have come from defensive players. If we get scoring again we will be fine as apart from the odd exception were very strong at the back. Our two toughest games now come up within 9 days of each other and both at home. Getting results in those will make us pretty well mathematically certain of a play off spot.

Our run in is very difficult with a mix of play off contenders, relegation battlers and Bishops Stortford (who we know are a decent side). We would do incredibly well to be contenders going into the final couple of games. That said win the next 2 and we can sit back and see what happens Bromley v Eastleigh with interest. If we don't we can settle for the play offs and look forward to them. Both difficult games but we are obviously capable of adding another couple of wins.
As to the game I think we edged it overall against a pretty organised outfit who posed a threat on the counter. I'd say they will be disappointed not to be on the fringes of the play off race at this stage given the side they have. Good to see the reserves coming through, the left back filled in well. Big credit to the management in the reserves for having a couple of guys who can step up - makes a big difference as injuries take their toll. Thought Sawyer provided a bit of a spark when he came on and that is the first time in his short Sutton career that he has really impressed me (personally would have played Kane instead on occasions). Hope we can start Thursday the way we finished the last 20 minutes last night. I'd reckon Havant will be a very similar outfit to BW and an early goal would do wonders. Difficult as the games come thick and fast to keep that edge to our play that was there a few games ago.
