Vey disappointing to lose this game after getting back on track with two midweek wins. We looked good going forward with JT scoring twice, the first a lovely lob and the second aided by a deflection. But our defending was uncharacteristically slack today.
So that's the unbeaten run ended after 16 games, and our slight hopes of winning the title have probably gone with it. If it hadn't been for points dropped against struggling teams (Dorchester, Tonbridge, Maidenhead) we'd be right up there. It's now a matter of focussing on the play-offs.

Dos said the team didn't look tired but I thought that 2nd Maidenhead goal today, coupled with 4 matches in 8 days plus playing uphill just about did for us. At 4.20 the impossible looked on but maybe that Maidenhead winner has done us a favour? We are not now in a chase and that allows the focus to be put into getting everyone fit for the playoffs.
Today we were the dominant side, played some excellent football and should have been out of sight by half time. We failed to get that 2 goal cushion we really needed with players like Ben King playing his 3rd first team match in 5 days, we did look creaky at the back. I don't think Maidenhead mow the grass but do appear to plough it!
The referee will be a talking point when 'Mark' gets on and rightly so as he was hopeless, not sure it effected the result though? As for the so called 'assistants' I don't think they waved for a foul all afternoon?
We did the hard work going 2-1 up, should have shut up shop and defended what we had but we got caught by the long ball and had a few warnings before the free kick leading to the goal. Why 'o' why take the risk of holding your line with officials who you cannot trust to give a throw in the correct way let alone spot a clever offside? The video may prove our boys right but that isn't going to help. We simply switched off for the 3rd but as I said it maybe a blessing in disguise?

Uncharacteristic defending cost U's dear at York Road, a ground where we have a poor record over the last decade. Never quite understand why Maidenhead struggle so much because they generally give us a tough afternoon.
That said, U's should have won yesterday having twice taken the lead though JT's goals and failing to take a great chance to earn a 2-0 lead.
A lesson for the second goal conceded, don't try and play-off side from a free-kick at this level. The fella may well have been offside but this is CS officials we are dealing with and as we saw from the ref's performance today many of them are not up to it. Really asking a lot to get the benefit of what may have been a tight call away from home. Should have had a pen in the first half when the guy tried to strangle Dundo and he failed to clamp down on the home sides over zealous challenges when we were attacking down the slope in the first half. Booking their 'keeper for time-wasting in the last minute was a token gesture, there were more important incidents in the game that warranted a yellow, the pull back on Gav in the first half for instance. He also had not a clue how to play advantage.
So, unbeaten run ended but it has been a truly magnificent effort since the beginning of the year and 2nd place is still well up for grabs.

So our unbeaten 2014 comes to an end in perhaps an unfortunate way, but doesn't hide the fact that we lost to a side near the foot of the table again. We do have a habit of doing this, both this season and in previous years, and that's been the difference between a play off spot and a possible title for us. Dire home performances to Dorchester and Tonbridge, the current bottom two have undone a lot of the hard work that we've done elsewhere (like fantastic wins at Dover and Bromley), but it's best not to be too downhearted by it - at the start of the season we were looking at a play off spot, and probably looking more at 3rd place behind Eastleigh and Ebbsfleet. 2nd place is very much up for grabs though, and we'll have a better idea how much after the Bromley Easteleigh battle tomorrow night.
I agree with OS that the ref, however bad some people thought he was, affected the result. What affected it more was suicidal defending for at least two of their goals, and failure to make our first half pressure count. for the first 40mins we were all over them like a rash but only scored one goal (which was a beauty). To be fair Maidenhead gave it a good go and we can't really blame anyone but ourselves for losing a game which we should have won easily.
I'm pleased we have a couple of tough games coming up with Ebbsfleet and Stortford - think it will be easier to motivate the players to win those ones. By the time we face Concord on Easter Monday we should be in a position to relax a little and prepare for our play offs. Going in with the right frame of mind is so important, and this year we will go into them fighting. Hopefully we can break our play off duck and at very least get to the final. It's certainly the minimum we deserve.
