It was indeed a red kite. I think I saw two. They're a common sight over Maidenhead these days, having spread out from their stronghold in the Chilterns where they were reintroduced about twenty years ago. Two seasons ago Sal and I saw about thirty of them on an estate just outside Maidenhead.

Saw loads on the way there/back too. They are so beautiful, probably my second favourite animals after giraffes  |
