Delayed kick-off possible??
[18:40] - Just heard from Gareth and he's been on the road for two hours but is only just getting his quid out for the Dartford Tunnel - Team Coach is just ahead of him!

Call me lightweight, but at 7.40 and still not having reached the Dartford Tunnel I gave up and returned home. Game kicked off at 8.05, it's a minute before the interval and we lead 1-0 through McBean, scored just after they hit the bar with a header.

Played quite well and probably deserved to be in front, albeit about 20 seconds after their bloke had missed a sitter and hit the bar with a header.
Both their goals though were once more avoidable. Both down the left, long ball that the attacker gambled on and we missed. First carried over, I think, Lewis and the bloke squared it for a tap in.
Second came from Harris giving away the ball with a rather baffling pass to absolutely no one out to the wing after we'd almost scored and where a turn and pass back across the box was by far the most sensible option. Naturally clearance up the line bounced in front of Scoobs & over him. Bloke in the clear behind and Scoobs brings him down in the box trying to make up the ground. Penalty and a red card to boot.
Overall though, we once again didn't disgrace ourselves against lofty opposition. Just need to stop giving the ball away at key moments when we're committed forwards.

Team coach arrived at 7.42p.m. Kick off declared as 8.05 which gave our lads 23 minutes to disembark, change and loosen up after four hours on a coach. In the circumstances I thought we had an excellent first half with Warren scoring a good goal. Warren and Jason are beginning to form a good partnership upfront. Second half we went a bit flat and, although we had some chances and might have got a draw out of it, the penalty was a bit of a killer, although we performed well with ten men against the league's top team.

We did ok in the first half TQ should have hit the target with a header before JH set up WM to score a really good goal. Too many times last night we chose the wrong option when going forward. As stated above that was calamitously evident when RH decided to play the ball to the wing rather than across goal & the long ball that would have had John Beck drooling on the bench proved our downfall. If I was Mr H I would have been apologising to Scarbs on my knees afterwards. PW made some great stops especially after we went down to ten men.
It's difficult to know whether Histon were at full throttle last night, although they certainly did not want to lose the game. If so, once again U's competed well but lacked the killer pass when it was needed.
The whole evening was one of celebration for the home club but I think they will need to strengthen if they are to stay up next season. They looked no better than St Albans did last season.

I thought it was going to be Kettering all over again when I heard the coach was stuck on the M25 about half a mile in front of me at Dartford about 6.45. And it very nearly was - even Warren's goal was remarkably similar to Nursey's first ever goal for the club up at Rockingham Road a few years back.
We had a few clear-cut chances in the first half, and would ideally have gone in at half-time more than 1 up. The second half was a struggle though, and we only created one or two half-chances from what I can remember.
Lance Key, as is usual, took the banter well. I wonder if it's the last we'll see of him?
