I'm with you there. People's wages are private. I wouldn't want a bunch of strangers discussing mine in public either.
Another thing that annoys me about fans discussing players' wages, although nobody's done it on here: Footballers don't choose how much they're paid - clubs do (although there is often a certain amount of negotiation). A lot of people demonise them for daring to receive so much money (would you turn it down?!) when it's not actually up to them how much they're paid. And even if it were, they're hardly holding guns to heads for ransom. Some people - and I don't mean you lot - like to have a pop at anyone who happens to earn more than they do for a job they don't see as being that hard, even though they've never done it themselves.

I think the reason footballers' salaries get discussed is because they are paid too much. If Sutton United were any other business they would be paid less but there is no profit motive for the owners. Whilst our club probably doesn't overpay to the extent of others there is still no doubt in my mind that too much goes out in player expenses/salaries with respect to our income levels. Unfortunately the market has been over inflated. I attach no blame to players for any of this and quite frankly couldn't care less what they are paid as long as they show commitment when representing the club and aren't leading us to financial ruin. As to whether people have a right to know I'd say that the owners do and anyone else doesn't, same as any other business. The club accounts, however, are available on the official website so it is there for all to see.

I find it interesting that people should disapprove of people who would like to know.It is a public forum and it was a very reasonable question to start with.In general terms what does a non league footballer in say Conference South earn. Maybe some young aspiring players want to know if its a pathway for them to chose.Obviously it varies a lot from club to club.

Delboy ended: Obviously it varies a lot from club to club. And there's your answer. As a result, everything is mere speculation.

There's been no discussion about what any individual player earns. That would be inappropriate (unless the information had already been made public). I can't see the harm in discussing average earnings (to which we, as paying customers, contribute) particularly as the big variation in wage levels means that a lot of players will have earnings nowhere near that figure. As Gareth L says, the club's expenditure on wages appears in the published accounts, so it's not difficult to get a fix on the average.

I note nobody else has chimed in with their weekly income.
Funny that. Almost like it's nobody else's business...
People knowing what you earn and you deserving what you earn are two very different things.

I don't think anyone is too bothered what you earn as most people here haven't got a clue what you do or are interested !
