Wages for English Premier League players are often bandied about for admiration or criticism, but what about Conference players?
What is the average weekly wage for a player in the Conference National / North / South?
Are players paid per week or per match / training session?
Or, is this none of our (my) business?

From the little that I know, it varies wildly between players and clubs. I was aware that Eastleigh last season were paying a number of players a 4 figure sum per week (and if the rumours are true Stuart Fleetwood was being paid a wage close to many other CS weekly playing budgets). With that sort of money being thrown about, you can see why they won last season.
But overall - very variable!!

I'm no expert, but from what I've gleaned I'd say most contracted players at our level have wages in the range £200-£400 per week. Non-contract or young players may receive a lot less (maybe just expenses). Experienced players or 'marquee' signings at the wealthier clubs may get a lot more.

I've always felt there's no real reason for me to know  No reason why anyone else shouldn't be interested though of course. People do show a lot of interest in it but I'm often curious as to why we aren't so curious about the wages of doctors, dentists, bus drivers, etc...after all, we pay their wages too! |

Apart from the fact that football supporters think they should know everything about the club they support  And possibly the fact that they are so variable - most of the other jobs you suggest have specific structured payscales, whereas sportspeople don't have that - a lot of the time regular workplace HR rules either don't apply in sport or they can be ignored. Footballers can, in many cases, demand a certain wage - not a luxury afforded to most of us mere working mortals. |

...and the fact that when some clubs pay huge (unsustainable?) salaries, it doesn't exactly make the phrase "level playing field" very appropriate does it? I always thought the idea of any sport or contest was to determine whether one side was better than the other, not wealthier...

I'd be thinking very variable - I was informed fairly recently by a Conf South player (not Sutton though) that two players at Whitehawk are on £1500 and £900 a week respectively! Unreal money for this level.

You wonder why clubs go bust! It was rumoured that Gary Hill was paid £125,000 at Hornchurch and Darren Caskey was on £2k a week. They didn't last the season!

Well yeah, I say curious but more amused really, because these conversations are so often about willy-waving. "Our players are paid less than yours and we're still above you in the league!" Also, perhaps you'd be surprised at how variable, say, doctors' wages are in the private sector. Try Harley Street. |

Private sector - nope - they can pay what they like!
I certainly don't agree with the idea that supporters feel they have the right to know what people are paid. Like any other organisation, good governance should be trusted to make sure that appropriate levels of budgeting is kept to. Something at Sutton we're proud to have.

League Two players earn £1,300 to £1,500 a week Source: PFA. I would think top Conference players would earn a similar amount. That's almost three times the national wage.

Even if you know what a players weekly wage is it doesn't give you the whole story.You can top it up with bonuses & expenses.I suppose as supporters we kid ourselves into believing we are paying them but in truth the money comes from various sources some of which are visible & some that are not !  |

I seem remember Dos saying during our Ryman League Champion season that the players were on contracts where most of the money they earned was only given to them if they won, performance related pay to the highest level.

I earn about £230-240 a week after tax. I can't remember the last time I went to work and didn't make my company money from my work.
I presume the rest of you are happy to divulge the equivalent information about your employment.
If not, keep your tittle tattle discussions about peoples wages away from public forums.
