Yesterday rather typified our current plight. No lack of effort or commitment but as well as Bash and PH played and battled for everything, we're crying out for a "Dave Harlow" sort of character who puts his foot on the ball and creates.
Having gone 1-0 up and with 20 to go I would have thought playing out the rest of the game in an ugly fashion was the order of the day given our position. Overplaying in our defensive third leading to the free kick from which we conceded was just madness. After that there was only one winner. Seeing out the 1-0 as on Tuesday would have been priceless.
Welling next week - I'm strangely optimistic ;I don't know why! Speaking to a couple of B'Stoke fans in the bar and hearing their comparative recent experiences gave me fresh hope.

If the lads want any inspiration we will have to sing out hearts out and see if that spurs them on!
Referee was the poorest all season which says a lot, but things are looking promising for the U's, if Craig's injury isn't too bad and will be back soon enough, we have Jason Henry back soon aswell as we were definitly missing him on the right yesterday. If our strikers get a good few goals at RVP aswell it will boost our confidence and who knows 3 points could be beckoning at Welling. I can really see us putting up a great fight for the rest of the season now, even if others don't.

Raynes Park Vale drew 2-2 at Horley Town yesterday, not a bad result. Their reserve game at home was called off yesterday. This rain will not do the pitch any favours! See you all there hopefully! Wrap up warm!

Disappointing result, especially after we went ahead. But we just did what we virtually always do after going ahead, we retreated into our shell, dropped off 10 yards and frankly invited the oppo to come at us. What had been a hard fought clash until then suddenly became one way traffic. We have got to stop beating ourselves. It's the one thing that has been a constant all season.

Is it the manager's decision to try and sit on leads, or is it the players' nerves that make them sit back and play cautiously? 1-0 should not be nose-bleed territory - if we're going to be that kind of team, we need to make sure we can defend as a 10-man unit for sustained periods. If we can't do that then we need to develop the opposite mentality - go at the opposition for the whole 90 minutes. It's not 'next goal wins' after all - once we've taken the lead, we should either be putting teams to the sword or shutting up shop properly. Maybe Ernie needs to tell the players to play without fear - if we take the lead, it's a GOOD thing - we should then play with confidence and try to kill the game off, rather than adopting an "oh no, now the opposition are going to come at us" mentality. We should be concentrating on our own game, not the opposition's.

Very disappointing result against a very average team. I hope Craig's okay, because we'll be even further up the creek without his resolute defending.
I felt we needed to start winning when we played Braintree the other week if we were going to get out of the bottom 3 by the end of the season, and the three games since then have only produced 1 point. We need to produce play-off form for the rest of the season and around 12 wins to survive and it really is hard to see that happening, despite the improved effort and spirit since Ernie arrived. With hindsight, I think Ian Hazel should have been sacked earlier to give the new manager a better chance. Our best bet looks like being the hope that some other team(s) go under/merge etc!
Everyone's been optimistic about the extra money being pumped into the team by the Directors and others and I read in yesterday's programme that SUST has given a substantial percentage of its monies as well, but I'm not sure that throwing money at player's wages in our current situation is a good idea. Pursuit of that policy at this level usually leads to trouble (it's not something this club normally does) and we need to be realistic about where we'll probably be next season and ensure we have the money to produce a good side next year. I hope no-one will say that the money has all been spent this year and that cut-backs will be needed next season.

The board wouldn't put the club in a position where it was in danger of folding. Fingers crossed for a morale boosting win on Wed. That said I'd rather it was re-arranged for another night cos I can't make Wed's.

The board wouldn't put the club in a position where it was in danger of folding. I'm not suggesting that at all - just that we may not have all the funds we need for next season if a lot disappears in players' wages this season.

Taz / Popinjay, I'm not sure I buy into that this time, after we scored we looked very likely to score again and carried on our best spell of the game; right up until the equaliser. Don't take too much away from Basingstoke's fightback, they'd looked hapless up until that point and perhaps deserve credit for that rather than it all being about us collapsing. Having said that, Bash's turn into trouble and giving away the free kick didn't help!

Oh well, at least the ref gave me something to have a go at yesterday. Appalling form the strat when PW had cleaned a catch only to be caught in the head by a challenge from an opponent rsulting in him losing his grip on the ball & no bloody free-kick. Went down hill from there really.
As for the game, drab first half but plenty of effort from the players and we tried and succeeded in playing some football. Alas, to no avail.
Oh & their kindergarten fans. Arseholes. As CT was being stretchered around, some of them began the "Funeral March". I hope one of them ends up on a stretcher one day and is similarly abused. Fair play to CT, he didn't react - I did!

It was all a bit of a laugh apprently and we're all humourless PC merchants according to their lot on the Conf South forum.

Was i watching a different game? After we scored i don't remember us sitting back.Far from it.We attacked them and were playing well.We just gave away a silly free kick at the wrong time.
