Blimey, anyone would have thought we'd just lost to 10 man Dover in a play-off semi-final again.
First of all, as some others have stated, credit to Merstham last night for keeping their shape throughout that second ha;f and defending doggedly when necessary and relying on their tricky no 7 for their out ball.
That Hutchings scored their winner should be of no surprise to U's fans after his excellent performances for Leatherhead in the FAC a few seasons back.
As for our performance last night it was certainly not through lack of effort but the disappointing aspect was the lack off application. At times we over played and others took on shots looking for a goal of the season type score. We don't have a fit out and out forward available at the moment and it is obvious to all.
Onto other matters. Firstly with regards to only three subs. I believe Mike Spillane was either involved or held up by a road accident and never got anywhere near Merstham. I also assume Billy Medlock was a late withdrawal and Ollie Sitch just could not make the ground at such late notice.
With regards to Medibots' assertion that this management team is not up to it, does he mean Dos in that collective?
Now to my main observation and that of the indignation of one of our number with regards to Dos being on holiday. As well as football & business, Dos does have a family who I suspect he sees little of because of his other commitments. Therefore, I would suggest a week away in January, as well as being a chance to re-charge and re-think, may also give the opportunity for him to spend some quality time with his nearest and dearest. Don't we all take time of work now and then?
It is very ungracious to bring this up after all that he has done off and on the pitch and I do think some people on here have appallingly short memories. Personally, I'd prefer he missed a SSC match than a CS fixture, especially when one looks at the current table. He is also not the first SUFC manager to take mid-season breaks.
Another consideration from my point of view is that the poster currently holds high office within the Supporters' Club. Now, that shouldn't prevent him from voicing an opinion but I know that when I was the sec or chairman and indeed my predecessors in those roles, one thing we did not do was raise issues with the club's officers or management on a public forum (in my case via the Supporters regular publication of the time internet was for MI5 and the CIA only back then).
While you may hold a view, once in those roles, you aught to keep such things private. Now, I was no saint back then (as I am not now) but there were certain lines you did not cross.
Finally, on a general view, I think we have been a tad spoilt since Dos arrived and some people's expectations are maybe a little high (and I am not referring to a SSC defeat to lower league opposition). I am sure he'd admit (indeed he has) to making errors of judgement and is continuing to learn. So let's cut the guy a bit of slack.
With regards to the players, I suspect they were feeling pretty low after last night but more importantly it is the dent to their confidence such a result will bring. Do they really need anymore of that confidence to be eroded by some (albeit understandably disappointed) forum warriors, who don't even have the guts to post under their own names?
We're all in it together - the hell we are.
