....so here we are the first friendly of the season away to Winchester City FC on Saturday. Looking at their forum it would seem they are in the process of rebuilding due to their unexpected promotion to the Southern League SW division. Flackwell Heath FC Hellenic League declined due to travelling. Several Winchester jumped ship for the same reason. Looking forward to the game, will it be possible for a team sheet with numbers to be posted on line, so we know who is who. I went last year and players came and went as they do in early preseason friendlies.....and the question asked by many who is he, or whats his name!! Looking forward to the new season, good luck and many thanks to all those who have put in the hours during the close season.

The beauties of Twitter Dof, I remember the game last year wondering who certain players were and the official Twitter already had the first X1 and subs up. Sadly can't make it down on Saturday but hope to be down on Sunday for the first home friendly.

Tommy Wright looked good. I hope he stays and plays a few more games for the club.

.....Tommy Wright is a local lad, playing for Otterborne FC... in the write up it mentioned another player Sam Doswell, I wonder if its a relative of Pauls. Truly game of two halves, with a different 11 in each half. Both were entertaining, plenty of effort shown, on a very warm day.

I found this report on the non league forum. Winchester C. 0 Sutton U. 4
admission £8-00 no programme/teamsheet attendance est 170 new to Southern/South-West v lower mid-table Conference South This seems to be an annual game here now, prices were up £2 from last season reflecting City's success in the AGM Cup, I suppose. Last season the visitors were one down at half time but came back to win 5-1. This time they were much tighter and scored two early goals to secure the result. On 7 mins a cracking cross from Amankwaah was headed in powerfully by Fitchett, who looked useful. On 14 mins McAllister laid off a cross back to Spillane who rifled a shot into the corner. City battled hard but were held well by the visiting defence. The visitors looked dangerous whenever they came forward, Southam, one of six ex-Eastleigh players on show, controlling the midfield. Sutton made nine changes at half time but still looked comfortable. On 55 mins under 21-triallist Wright controlled a long ball forward, then finished instantly for 0-3. He looked very lively. The home team started to threaten after an hour, keeper Wayne Shaw (yes, that one) having to make a couple of good saves. At the other end ex-Beast Fleetwood also came close. On 82 mins another under-21 triallist, Galbraith, should have scored for the visitors, glancing a header from a free-kick just wide. But he was able to claim a goal on the final whistle when he challenged the keeper for a corner and the keeper's clearance hit him and went into the net. An impressive performance by the visitors, City weren't bad but have a few new players to integrate having gained an unexpected promotion. Quite a competitive game, with three bouts of mild handbags. Not many changes at the Denplan/City ground, just a bit of tidying up. With a main stand, small wooden cover opposite, and a bus shelter at one end, spectator accommodation is adequate. The clubhouse in one corner is fine, the portakabins for food and the club shop are both pretty good. www.nonleaguematters.co.uk/forum/gforum.cgi?post=675655;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;guest=62175139
