Just been scouring a few message boards and found this on the Basingstoke forum:
Basingstoke Town FC announces the resignation of Peter Gray as Reserve Team manager. Peter has accepted the post of Assistant Manager to Ernie Howe at Sutton United.
Peter feels that stepping up to Blue Square South level - and at the same time renewing the relationship he had while Ernie was manager at the Camrose - is an opportunity he could not turn down. He handed over his resignation letter after the home game with Uxbridge on Saturday 15th December.
Peter steered the Reserves to the Suburban League championship title last season and has contributed hugely to the progress of the football club over many seasons. He has been able to balance the needs of first team players coming back to full fitness, with the need to bring new and younger players into the squad, while putting out a cohesive, entertaining and competitive side each week - never an easy task.
The club is very sad to lose one of the senior members of its coaching staff but understands his reasons and thanks Peter for his excellent contribution over the years. We wish him the very best in his future career.
Assistant Reserve Team Manager Rod Jones, who joined the club at the start of the season, has also decided to step down. The club thanks Rod for his work alongside Peter and wishes him every success.
The club will now be seeking a new Reserve Team manager and assistant. With a 2 week break now in the Reserves' schedule, Peter's relatively helpful timing provides the club with a little extra time to find a new partnership. Amongst their first tasks will be to steer the team through the Challenge Cup final home and away legs, coincidentally against Sutton United Reserves in January.
