For Sutton fans of a certain age (even before my time by a few months), the name Tommy Orrick will send shivers down the spine and bring back some bad memories.
Tommy passed away yesterday. Who was he, what was he to Sutton United? With U's leading 1-0 at Wembley in the '69 Amateur Cup Final, North Shields brought Tommy off the bench and thus changed the course of U's history. His corner set up the equaliser and his cross the winner for North Shields as Sutton slumped to a second (and not last) defeat beneath the old Twin Towers.
RIP Tommy. I am sure the new North Shields club will mark your passing suitably.
Remiss of me not to credit John Clarke for this info. He was at the '69 Final.
