There have been a few mentions of Stuart Fleetwood elsewhere on Amber Planet, but I think this paradoxical figure at Sutton now merits his own thread. Consider the following. 1. He has an awesome scoring record in non-League football, but has yet to find the net in a competitive game for us. When he's had a sight of goal his shots have invariably been off-target. 2. We hear that he prefers to play down the middle, yet his best work for Sutton has been in a wide left position where he's been excellent - using his pace and close control to skin defenders and get in dangerous crosses. 3. He's the most high-profile member of our squad (and, I imagine, one of our highest paid) but has started most of our games on the bench, with Dos preferring to use him as a second-half impact player. At least two of the above may be about to change. With Dan Fitchett now out with a hamstring injury, we can expect to see Fleets starting up front alongside Craig McAllister (the Fleetwood Mac combo ). With goals having rather dried up for us lately (only two in our last four games, and one of those an o.g.), this would be a great time for him to rediscover his scoring touch. EDIT: missing 'o' inserted in Mr Fleetwood's surname!

Fleets is the best deliverer of the ball, his set pieces cause our oppos more problems then the rest of our team put together.

So Fitchett has a serious hamstring injury ? Dos said he thought 2 or 3 weeks in his "after match" interview, am guessing you haven't seen it then ?

Fleets may well be the best deliverer of a set piece but i feel sure that Dos brought him in to score goals. My first thoughts when we signed him were that Dos had brought in a quality forward and i was expecting a lot more. I was disappointed when i first saw him in a pre season friendly. Perhaps my expectations were too high but iv'e yet to be impressed. I recently checked his goalscoring record over the last couple of years and its not impressive.Maybe he needs that little bit of luck to rediscover his goal scoring touch and he will get that opportunity in the next few matches.

It usually takes me a few days to pluck up the courage to watch the interviews/highlights after a loss, but that said I doubt Dos would have categoric knowledge on the extent of the Fitchett injury right after the game, I hope its no longer than 3 weeks

Some stats (goals per game, from Soccerway)
Ross Stearn - 0.29 Craig Mc - 0.24 Fitchett - 0.27 Fleetwood - 0.22 Dundas 0.25
Last time Fleetwood played at this level for Eastleigh, who won the league, he scored 8 goals in 28 games he started. Let's give the guy support and encouragement rather than moaning at why he's not got 20 goals already this season. He's only played a full 90 minutes 4 times.

I'd like to see him get a run in the side. Seems our other forwards have done without setting the world alight. He should get his opportunity before being judged. He has had some opportunities when coming on and has lacked composure but maybe he just needs time to settle and relax through starting some games. If he gets up and running with a goal and some confidence maybe things will turn around quickly. I certainly don't feel anyone has been on his back, probably most pressure is coming from within.

You've obviously been standing at a different part of the ground than me

The most impressive thing I have seen him do since being at the club is chase back and make that challenge against Aldershot.
Perplexed as to why he isn't starting as he is probably on a fair wack and why when he is used he is out on the left when his comments as to why he joined was because he would be played in the middle which is his favoured position.
Give him a run in the team in his favourite position and see if he scores some goals, otherwise what is the point in having him if he is going to be used off the bench and played out wide. We have good wide options already but we are lacking a good striker up top.
If he doesn't fire for us he won't be the first striker under Doswell to have come in with a good reputation and flop.
