Our dearest U’s fans, another year is almost gone by and we are about to enter into a new one full of wishes and expectations and a decisive one for that matter as to whether we would avoid the drop!
As I reflect on this already out-going 2007 [un-behalf of SUFCG], a lot have been achieved and it’s with pride that I say our club have moved a step up the stepping stone towards achieving our plans and wishes; A proper management set-up is currently been formed under the consultation of DF [pardon me, he’s locally known to our fans as SIR DAVE], last season’s sponsorship deal with e2bid brokered by the mother club, our exposure to the whole planet on the world wide web, the love and recognition by the mother club which by the way has earned us special treatment & attention every where we go. It’s without doubt all these make up the reasons to be really satisfied with our progress.
Just last week or the week before, I received an email from Gareth Miller [the supporter’s trust chairman] and this really made me very happy. Reading his mail sent this exciting feeling down my spine that I cannot put into words . The supporters trust is something I find very crucial in the modern day game and we hope one day in the future when we get to the top flight to set up one of Sutton’s kind and what better way than to learn direct from the parent club.
On your end, it’s a pity how WE got into this mess in the Blue Square Premiere and may I use this opportunity to emphasize that WE all are in this together! Now that Ernie’s plans of getting off the bottom by Christmas has failed, I think it’s very important for all to come together in seeking a way to survive the relegation battle. Each of us has a part to play and all our different parts are equally important! I know a lot of critics have written us off and even some of our own fans have doubted our potentials [and I am not blaming them] but am sure we can, Sunderland did it last season in the championship and we too can for sure – TOGETHER WE CAN IF WE BELIEVE!!!
A lot have happen to both club’s and on our side, our early league exit was very sad and shocking but we have learnt our lesson and are looking to improve on next season. Some of our disgruntle fans and officials have left because of the common / ordinary differences found at all clubs and we intend on getting them back on board as they very important to us! The year 2008 would be complete if we can at least make it to the quarter-finals in our league, help a few star players to higher levels and cement a reliable and efficient administration and probably… just probably get DF or OS or any direct fan of the club over when our league kicks off
On a more serious note we want to say a big thank you for the support and kindness you have bestowed on us, you have transformed a Sunday league side looking SUFCG to a proper amateur club and one that could be the Gambia’s dreamin the future! We will support you the best we can and always to a 100%. Let me sign out with a traditional Wolof proverb “n-dan-ka n-dan-ka, jaapal golloh” meaning “slowly slowly, catch a monkey”. The mother club will certainly get to grip the monkey in avoiding the drop and on our part we will hopefully achieve our aims & vision. Thank you lot and wising you a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year in advance …
