Hi guys, Curzon fan here!
Really, really looking forward to our long trip down south to face you guys next weekend. It's the furthest we have ever reached in the FA Trophy and it will be good to tick off a ground that we wouldn't ordinarily get to visit.
First thing first: beer! What are the pubs like around your ground? There are some of us coming down the night before (or in a few of our cases, staying the night after as well), with the purpose of spending the whole day out. Do you guys have any recommendations?
Three of us are staying in Croydon, is that easy enough by public transport? We know it's not round the corner but it was cheap as chips!
And what's the food like at the ground? Do you do pies? We know a lot of southern teams shy away from pies!
We're a family friendly club so I'm sure you'll all get on well with us. We just want to make sure we have a great day out regardless of the result.

Hi, Best bar in the league (I would say that, wouldn't I) - currently four different real ales on hand pump. Bar opens at midday and hot food available from 1.00. Take the train from West Croydon to West Sutton, which is a 2 minute walk from the ground.

You'll have to change trains at Sutton, but it's easy enough from West Croydon. I was going to write a load of stuff about pubs, then I remembered this existed conferencesouthnomads.freeforums.org/sutton-boozing-t401.htmlAlso, yes ours is the best bar in the league. If any if you are real ale fans you won't be disappointed.

I'm personally not a real ale drinker, but two lads I'm with definitely are so they will be in for a treat, great to hear.
Thanks for the help with trains and other pubs, very much appreciated!

Despite its rather grim reputation, Croydon is pretty good for pubs. The George (George St) is a better-than-average Wetherspoons, the Dog & Bull (Surrey St) will give you an authentic taste of the local street market, the Green Dragon (High St) is loud and lively in the evenings while the Spreadeagle (Katharine St) offers something a little smarter. All these are close to each other in the town centre. TBH Sutton isn't that great for drinking, and the better pubs are in the residential areas. There are various chain pubs in the High Street, but that's a bit of a distance from our ground. There's a pub called the Plough almost opposite the ground but very few of us drink there, and you really are better off using our cosy club bar.

And if you like hard rock music you could always go to Croydon's best pub, The Ship. It's opposite the Green Dragon

Plenty of decent pubs & places to eat in Sutton high street, but as stated before avoid the plough pub near to the ground you are much better off having a drink in the football club bar

If you like live music you can do no better that our very own Boom-Boom Club (part of the club & adjoining the after match bar). This Saturday hosts The 'Swinging Blue Jeans'. Tickets can be reserved in advance here: www.feenstra.co.uk/boomboom/index_f.htmFor those coming down on Friday, The Boom-Boom is featuring the 2014 Young Blues Artist of the year 'The Laurence Jones Band'. I've not seen either of these, but promoter Pete Feentra always books the best artists. Bar is open from 7:30.

I reckon it'd be rude for them not to try them both, if not make a pub crawl of it and try s few others from sutton station to the ground and decide for themselves!

Well this is true, and indeed it would almost seem churlish if we didn't accompany them to make sure they don't miss anything

I don't think I'd ever call a wetherspoons "my boozer"! This is an objective assessment from a CAMRA member who's been involved in Pub of the Year judging (Not that it makes your opinion any less valid than mine, just in case anyone decides to take me seriously!)
