....and on the subject of Sutton greats, this Saturday is another of our Legends' Days, when we welcome back heroes from yesteryear, together with the announcement of the next three inductees into our Hall Of Fame. The presentations will be made at around 2.45, in the main stand.
We are expecting a really good turn-out of 60s Legends this Saturday, plus a few (slightly) more recent heroes.

Unfortunately not, but we are on the case to get back in touch. At least 8 players from the 1960s will be there tomorrow.

............Re former players, met someone recently and we talked about football, and he told me had played for Leatherhead, I told him about my interest in SUFC....and he mentioned a Dave Leonard who played early 60's...is he still around? I do remember that team, well some of them!! Peter Molloy was the manager.

We had two Dave Leonard's, the one you mention above was a full-back, the other a forward (his most famous U's goal would have been at Spennymoor in 1974). The latter used to be a regular visitor as a spectator although I haven't seem him for many years now.
As for Dave the defender, I would not know but I think he joined Maidstone and later played for Bromley suggesting he was a SE London / Kent based player.
Who was the guy you bumped into? I work with Jack O'Malley's son and Jack played for Sutton and then Leatherhead late 50's to late 60's. He was a goalkeeper of some standing.

Well, that was fun By my maths we had 17 former players turn up yesterday (in the region of 3,000 combined appearances), including three members of the 1969 Amateur Cup Final team and four from the 1963 final. Not forgetting some familiar off-pitch faces too, Mr & Mrs Golley, Shan Hermitage, Pat Carr and John "Dorian Gray" McKinnon ! It's always nice to see the "old boys", the conversations are always natural and good-natured and although the focus is often on the memories from yesteryear they still display an interest and talk sensibly about today's football and the game they have just watched. Yesterday's consensus ? At this time of year it's about finding a way to win. It was especially nice yesterday to welcome back two players from the late 60s, Dennis Clarke and Dave Hutchins, that I personally had never met previously although I did see both play. Even Larry Pritchard confessed to catching up with people he had not seen for the best part of forty years. As I'm sure everyone will agree, three worthy additions to our Hall Of Fame, but at times I am left feeling daunted by considering how many Sutton greats there are still to be honoured with records just as compelling as those already included. What a fantastic club we are all so lucky to follow.

You're daunted? What about me, KBB and Ade?
A great turn out by the legends yesterday. It is wonderful that they continue to return and each year another face from yesteryear pops up.

It's not easy, is it Mark ? So many great players to consider. At least I haven't yet told any of the disgruntled legends who chairs the selection panel. . . . . . Whoops !
