Oh yeah, and today is the 17th anniversary of that happy day in 1999 when we walloped Aldershot 5-0 to clinch the league title! Almost exactly half a lifetime ago for me But we won't have teletext to cheer every time it scrolled round and showed Sutton United as champions

Almost exactly half a lifetime ago for me But we won't have teletext to cheer every time it scrolled round and showed Sutton United as champions Ha ha yes, I remember doing that on the Tuesday. Our game that night was postponed (stinking weather) and for us to win the league at the rearranged match on the Thursday, Aylesbury United had to fail to beat Heybridge Swifts. I went to the club in spite of the postponement and watched their updates come through on teletext. They drew and it was awesome

Technically (and only technically) we still need a point - so players can win it in style on the pitch tomorrow.

Well done to the clubs reps for putting over our case in such terms that the FA saw fit to consider such a sanction of a fine enough to merit the charge.
Well done to the FA for considering the facts and ensuring that a 42 match season be decided on the field (artificial or grass) not in an office at Wembley.
Now let the players go out and confirm their deserved reward on the pitch tomorrow afternoon with a performance and result to match those of the last 24 matches played. Let's do it in style.

What is your take on the 3 point deduction for Corinthian-Casuals today? What is the difference between their case and Sutton's? www.corinthian-casuals.com/news

Casuals have been docked three points for fielding a player who was suspended. That's a rather more serious offence than fielding a player whose loan had not been fully cleared.
There's been a cloud having over Sutton since the win at Maidstone and it's great news that it's been cleared on the eve of the match that could see the club crowned as divisional champions. Credit to Dos and the players for holding their nerve and delivering that run of three more wins while the shadow of a points deduction hung over them.

First of all, I'm delighted at the news although I embarrassed myself celebrating on the bus home from school! Still need the point though so I'm not planning away trips for next season just yet Casuals' deduction was for a suspension rather than the status (ie loan forms) of a player so is different but still very harsh given it was basically a London FA mistake - I'm gutted for them

Not sure I understand why the County Cup tie did not count towards the suspension, so I have no idea why he was deemed to have played while suspended. If the cup tie was re-scheduled it could be seen as manipulation of the rules and therefore not count towards the suspension.
The difference is that it was a suspended player and if deemed to have played while suspended then a club will face a points loss every time.
Should point out that Casuals are a London FA parented club not Surrey FA.
As I say, without the full facts it is difficult to comment either in full or with any confidence.

One other thought is that if he was in illegible to play (cup tied) then the match would not count towards the suspension.

FA Rules do state that, the only case where a a variation of a points deduction can be made is under the term 'player status' such as international clearance (Remember AFCW) and loan signings. Had we of broken any other rule all be it by mistake we would have had the points deducted as mandatory.

Feel for James Bracken and his team. Would have been a fantastic achievement in his first full season in senior management to make the play-offs and with an amateur club too.

Yes, I feel very sorry for them too, if it's true that they were told if was OK (and I'm sure they wouldn't say so if it were otherwise).
The difference in my mind is that if a player is suspended then that is a punishment the club has to face for his conduct, as opposed to a loan player whose appearance is basically a mutual arrangement between two clubs helping each other out. If a punishment is flouted then obviously a more serious punishment is merited.
