How will we do next season?
Reading various comments online suggests the National League will have a top half of strong clubs with the remainder looking for survival. Last term Bromley had an excellent start then faded. This coming season will need us to start strongly! Can we do it?

I think we need to break the habit of past seasons and have a reasonable start. This isn't the league you want to be playing catch-up in. As long as we do that, I think we'll be OK.

Think it could be a struggle,it is still a big step, can't see us finishing in the top half of the table, but we can stay up

For me proper conditioning of the players and suitable rotation will be crucial to maintaining a high standard consistently for 46 matches
I think we may need more than 20 players capable of playing for the first team, and to keep them all match fit, and reasonably happy, I reckon we may need to reinstate a reserve team, or set up a development team

Are you suggesting at least one of our squad could lose a few pounds I wonder how different our pre season training is to a top professional club? 11 things you didn’t know about pre-season football trainingNorwich City and England Under-21 star Nathan Redmond opens up to Mark Bailey about the reality of pre-season football training, from bleep tests and ice baths to poached eggs and darts. I'd be very happy with 60 points. Comfortable mid-table.
There are a lot of sides in the division we shouldn't fear, and are familiar with such as Bromley, Boreham Wood and Dover. As we showed last season, we more than held our own against a mid table side like Aldershot, and that was before the side clicked the way they did. The issue really is that there are a lot of unknowns for us to overcome, including teams we've never played before and players we know little about. But going into the season with the bulk of the squad from last year who know and like each other, plus a full pre-season, I don't think I'm being over-confident in saying we could be a bit of a surprise to the division. The elements are all in place for that to happen.

Our style of play will almost certainly play a big part in where we finish, in the vast majority of the home games we played (can't comment on away ones as I didn't attend any) we were the better attacking force (as it should be if you want to up the top of a division), naturally this league will feature better teams that will probably be able to deal with our attacks better and attack better themselves. Playing that way probably means we are more likely to win games than if we set up with a more defensive structure but probably means we are also more likely to lose games, could mean greater variance of results but overall I think we'd pick up enough points to avoid relegation, depending on how things go for and against us we could well do better than that.

How many of the other 23 clubs have professional squads?
Will this be something Sutton United needs to consider to compete in the longer term?

I believe the two clubs coming down have parachute payment of £300,000. Other top sides will also have huge budgets. Last season showed part-time teams can compete if they are managed well. 2016/17 will be a huge test for Dos and his team.

But we have the best midfield in non league football and one of the best goalkeepers. The defence ain't bad too and we have a pretty good goal scorer.
I honestly believe we could get a play off spot. Maybe a tough ask but we're not there to make up the numbers as Dos says.

I agree.I believe we can get a play off spot as well .Many of our players have played at a higher level than Conference National and as long as we don't give the opposition too much respect we will cope. Don't forget there is a reason why these Ex league teams are playing at this level and they are just names from the past !
I also remember there were plenty of supporters on here who believed playing in the CS was too high for us when we first went up again and although we were brought back to reality against Woking we finished well.

Think you are both making the same mistake England supporters make when we win a game or two before a major tournament

I think the exciting bit is we don't actually know how good our squad is, it was put together from players trying to reestablish their careers and some hungry up starts. The team has gelled with every match it has played and simply got better and better. We did play Aldershot just before the run got started and in truth should have won that day, played the better football and I think the team that finished the season would have put the Shots to the sword.
Make no mistake we have good side, yes the National is tough, but then look at Dover, and I think we are better than them tbh.

I'll back us to do very well. Dos is keeping the squad together and adding players who he believes will compliment or improve them.
