We regret that on the instructions of the Police, acting on information that they have received, the following arrangements will apply this Saturday for the visit of Newport County:-
All spectators, other than season ticket holders (who may enter through the stand), must enter via the turnstiles at the Gander Green Lane end. The Collingwood Road turnstiles will not be open. There will be no access through the tunnel from the ground into the Stadium Club between kick-off and full-time. Away fans will not be permitted entry to any of the club bars on match-day. Home fans are reminded to carry VP or Stadium Club cards.

We've never had any problems with Newport in the past. They come in vast numbers and always behave themselves. What with The Plough being closed and Threshers too, we could well have far more disgruntled Welshmen to deal with than if they were allowed into the Times Lounge in the first place. Another knee-jerk reaction from Mr Plod.

I see the police are marching in London re pay! This is a difficult one. Police have info re possible problems Saturday by a few Newport fans (following last year's incident) and info re outside London fans coming to the game as well. Brentford are without a game but it is nothing to do with them!!! Closing the Plough (and the Gander) will cost the landlord(s) quite a bit of cash but makes sense. Threshers is closed too. Chelsea cup tie is at 5.15pm! It is a shame that the vast majority are inconvenienced by a mindless minority. I will be "safe" at Colliers Wood v Dorking weather permitting!

Also Chelmsford are playing Carshalton on Saturday at Colston Avenue.
The borough won't have seen so many soccer fans for a while.

I think thats the problem - WE'VE never had issues with them, and although even at their own ground I can see why people think they could be intimidating, most of them are very pleasant.
Yes it is kneejerk from Plod, but probably more down to some of the element we have in the environs of the ground, rather than the club or anyone connected to it

I am still annoyed a week later, partly because nobody said we wouldn't be allowed to exit through the stand AFTER the game, which resulted in me missing my train to Norwich by one second (yes, really one second) and only getting to the restaurant my family had booked by the skin of my teeth. As we were all queuing patiently at the gates it would have been nice of the stewards to let us know we needed to go all the way to the GGL gates rather than just let us stand there and then tell us to bugger off when they opened the gates... oh well. I have better uses for my time
