I think you are referring to the ground that used to belong to Horwich RMI (who became Leigh RMI) where according to the recollections of 1 fan
"the base of the corner flag was level with the top of the crossbar – on the same goal line." (phew)

I think we'd be foolish to miss out the gully at Clitheroe

I am sure someone will put me right on the details but I recall a game at The Huish, I think it was in the FA Trophy. We were attacking down the slope in the 1st half and had a really strong wind at our backs. I think we scored 4 in the first half and the pick was an own-goal by their player-manager (I think) who tried to clear a free-kick on his own 18-yard line (delivered from inside our own half or thereabouts)but managed to volley it into his own net.
Or I dreamt all of that !

The thing I always find funny about sloping pitches. Teams swap halves at half time, so any benefit kind of levels out eh? As for wind assisted goals - now that's a different story. I remember a silly goal scored on a new year fixture with Carshalton by Nigel Brake about 13 years ago, and we could say a couple of the goals at Torquay last season were not hindered by the wind

Not as windy as Daventry though; keepers struggled to get goal kicks to get out of the penalty area that afternoon.

So at Loakes Park, the corner kicks from opposite sides would have been 11 foot difference in height (according to Pinewalker) - did players form human pyramids there to be able to head the ball. Of course the corner kick taker would also have to take into account the wind speed and direction. As well as determining whether the match ball was pumped up to the same pressure as in training. Slope at Loakes Park, what slope: The only ground I went too that made you feel drunk without touching a drop, as you were concentrating on the pitch, your mind would straighten it up, so when you looked at anything that was straight the whole world looked like it was slanted - very weird feeling That photo doesn't do the Loakes Park slope justice. The slope was of a diagonal nature from corner flag to corner flag, the lowest point being to the right of the goalposts shown in the photo.

I remember hooking an umbrella on the rail and watching it slide away from me down the slope. To be fair, there WAS a strong side wind.
