I've just seen a public statement from Macclesfield players saying that they haven't been paid for January.
Is this about to get very interesting?

Certainly won't help team moral. 3rd team in recent months who seem to be running into financial troubles in our division. Gonna be a long line of donation buckets going round the grounds this weekend.

Macclesfield were trying to raise money for a promotion push when we were at the ground late December.

Well realistically were only just into Feb so "it's a few days late". More interesting is that they've gone to the press straight off the bat. Money may be an issue there but unlike Hartlepool where they seem to be together for the common cause, there's a pretty obvious divide in that club.

Maybe I'm more uncharitable than some but can never understand fans from other clubs donating to these 'causes'. They spend too much on players, money they haven't got and then publicise the need to raise funds. Chester advertising the donations as if it is some sort of badge of honour. It's a disgrace that they are back in financial trouble so quickly and shows complete contempt for their support. I have sympathy for supporters for sure but any money at this stage is likely to go into a black hole. They will all need proper investment once it gets this far or will need to start again (again again for Chester).

Donating because a club has had some out of the ordinary situation out of their control is one thing, but a club paying beyond their means or being bled dry by dodgy board members is insulting to other fans.

The Macclesfield fans are quite rightly upset and no doubt feel a bit duped in donating money for their "promotion push". The worrying thing for the players is that they haven't been able to get hold of the Chairman and other key personnel. That doesn't look good at all. They need assurances. If a Statement doesn't come out today from the Board then they may well be in serious trouble.

A big part of the problem is that too many clubs at our level are chasing a return to the 'promised land' of the Football League. They over-stretch themselves financially in an attempt to win promotion then find that not enough supporters are buying into the cause. Maintaining a full-time squad of 20+ players is expensive, and there are only two promotion spots available - either of which could end up being claimed by a prudently-run semi-pro club!

So 3 donors have donated £16k with the rest just £5k. Doesn't look good to me.

Macclesfield felt able to bring three players in on loan from EFL clubs last month to help with their promotion push, so, for want of a better phrase, "f**k 'em". You reap what you sow.
Given the speed of the statement after only being a couple of days late with the pay packets, I would suggest this has probably been going on for a while. The club will be in breach of contract, which would allow any of their players to move as free agents if they so chose.

www.mtfc.co.uk/3 things missed this week . . . None of them are players/staff payments! Well I thought it was funny!* * obviously not to those concerned who no doubt have bills to pay and have my greatest sympathy.

I wonder if any Silkmen have found their way into Dos' little black book...
